As one of the main input factors in agricultural production, farmland has economic properties, and the problems existing in the process of farmland use can reflect the current difficulties faced by China’s agricultural economic development. As the basic resource condition of agricultural development, against the background of green development, farmland use is changing from quantity stabilization to quality improvement, emphasizing the new connotation of "quantity, quality, and ecology." Green transition of farmland use refers to the process of a trendy turn from one form of farmland use to another in the time series with the continuous adjustment of external environment changes, such as global environment,socio-economics,and policies and systems, with green development as the axis,in which the pursuit of intensive management, scale, specialized production, environmental friendliness, and technological progress is achieved. The green transition of farmland use can increase the intensity of farmland use, raise the level of agricultural science and technology, optimize the output level, reduce environmental pollution, and promote the agricultural economy to grow continuously. The green transition of farmland use is an effective measure to realize the coordinated development of farmland use and the environment. It is also an effective way to promote agricultural economic growth, which is of great theoretical and practical significance to promote the sustainable development of the agricultural economy, poverty alleviation, and coordinated regional development.Based on the externalities of farmland use,the transition and development of farmland use patterns in this region will also affect the agricultural economic growth of neighboring regions. In view of this, this paper takes 70 county units in Hubei Province as the research object and 2000,2005,2010,2015,and 2020 as the study periods. Then examining the historical development and reality of the green transition of farmland use and determining whether there is a spatial correlation between the green transition of farmland use and agricultural economic growth. The research further measures the effect of green transition of farmland use on agricultural economic growth.Research results:(1)From 2000 to2020,the overall spatial transformation showed a positive trend, with the spatial pattern showing a temporal trend of "growth-decline-re-growth" and a spatial distribution pattern of "high in the west and low in the east".The level of transition of farmland use function is "declining-growing-declining again",and the overall development trend is relatively stable. The spatial distribution pattern of "high in the middle-low around" is shown in space. The transition level of arable land use pattern shows the change characteristics of "decline-growth-decline again".The high value areas are found in the mountainous areas of northwest Hubei and the plain of central Hubei, and some low value areas are concentrated in the mountainous areas of south Hubei.(2)The overall agricultural economic level of Hubei Province shows a rising trend, with two stages of dramatic expansion from2000 to 2005 and from 2010 to 2015.The agricultural economic level spatially shows the distribution characteristics of central > eastern > western, while the spatial differentiation gradually decreases with the passage of time.(3)Moran’s I of agricultural economic growth was positive in the factor layers(quantity form, spatial pattern, production function, life function, ecological function, intensive utilization, environmental friendliness and technological progress)of farmland use transition, function transition and model transition. There are obvious positive spatial correlations between all subsystems of agricultural economic growth and green transformation of arable land use.(4)The optimization of cropland quantity pattern and production function as a whole has a positive effect on the agricultural economic growth of the county, while the spatial structure, production function, intensive use and environmental friendliness of cropland have a direct negative effect on the agricultural economic growth of the county. The quantity pattern of arable land in this county will promote the agricultural economic growth of neighboring counties, and there are negative spillover effects of production function, ecological function, and environmental friendliness on the agricultural economic growth of neighboring counties.By regions, there is obvious spatial heterogeneity in the characteristics of factors affecting agricultural economic growth. The overall degree of influence effect is Ebei gangland>Ezhong plain>Exi mountainous area>Edong hills. The spatial heterogeneity in neighboring areas is also significant. The overall effect degree is Ebei hill>Ebei hill>Ezhong plain>Exi mountainous area.In order to promote the green transition of farmland use and realize the sustainable growth of agricultural economy. The government should take measures according to the natural endowment and economic and social conditions of each county. We should accelerate the overall regional development, put forward relevant policies, increase rewards and punishments, and promote green utilization. We should attract more and better agricultural talents and stimulate the transformation of agricultural modernization.
