Objectives To understand the current situation of mobile phone addiction and child neglect among the main caregivers of preschool children, and to explore the impact of caregivers’ mobile phone addiction on child neglect in Tangshan city. Our finding will provide the base for making prevention managements and strategies. Methods A Total of 1450 caregivers of urban preschool children in Tangshan were randomly surveyed with cluster sampling.Self-fitting scale, scale from the “Chinese Urban Child Aged 3~6 Years Neglect Evaluation Norm” and Mobile Phone Addiction Index scale were used in this study.Epidata3.1 was used to establish database.SPSS 25.0was employed for analyzing neglect rate and degree by using chi-square test,t test,ANOVA,logistic regression and multivariate linear regression and analysis. Results 1 Among 1450 preschool children in Tangshan city,637 were neglected. The prevalence of child neglect of the children in Tangshan city was 43.9%,and the total average degree of child neglect of them was 44.1±9.5.There was no significantly difference(P>0.05)in terms of prevalence of child neglect between boys(45.6%)and girls(42.2%).There was significantly difference(t=2.926,P<0.05)in terms of total average degree of child neglect between boys(44.8±9.7)and girls(43.3±9.3).There were no significantly difference in terms of prevalence and total average degree of child neglect among different ages(P>0.05).2 The main caregivers of 1438 preschool children in Tangshan city were their parents, accounting for 99.2%.The mobile phone addiction rate of children’s caregivers was 45.7%(662/1450).The prevalence, total average degree, rate and average degree at all levels of child neglect of the children with parental mobile phone addiction were higher than those without addiction, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).3 Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that parental mobile phone addiction(OR=2.283,95%CI=1.803~2.892)was a risk factor for children’s neglect.4 Based on multiple stepwise regression analysis, mobile phone addiction(P<0.001)was an important factor affecting children’s neglect. Conclusions 1 The prevalence of child neglect of the children in Tangshan city is high and the average degree of child neglect of the children is serious.2 Among preschool children in Tangshan city, the prevalence and average degree of child neglect of the children with parental mobile phone addiction were higher than those without addiction.3 Parental mobile phone addiction mainly has a great impact on children’s emotion neglect. It is suggested that parents should put down their mobile phones, timely meet children’s emotional needs, accompany their children’s growth, and strive to create a healthy living environment for children.Figure0;Table39;Reference115...
