Objective To introduce and translate the Patient Safety Competency Self-evaluation(PSCSE),and to test the reliability and validity of PSCSE.To investigate the current situation of patient safety competency level in general hospitals using Chinese version of the PSCSE and analyze the influencing factors of undergraduate nursing interns,so to provide theoretical basis for related research of patient safety competency in the future.Methods1.Literature Review Adopted literature review method to understand the current situation at home and abroad of patient safety competency of undergraduate nursing interns, clarified the concept, theoretical framework and assessment tools of patient safety competency, and found out the factors that may affect the patient safety competency level of the undergraduate nursing interns.2.Expert Consultation The initial scale of PSCSE was made into an expert consultation table, and it was issued to 15-20 experts who met the requirements to assign each entry to reflect the importance. After carrying out two rounds of experts, combined with the expert recommendation, the first draft was formed.3.Field Investigation Through the combination of the pre-investigation and formal investigation,PSCSE questionnaires were sent to undergraduate nursing interns, with related terminology and precautions explained,to understand the current situation and influencing factors of patient safety competency.4.Statistical analysis method Excel and SPSS software were uesd for relevant statistical analysis. In the stage of Chinese localization, exploratory factor analysis and Cronbach’s α metholds were used to test the reliability and validity of PSCSE.In the stage of scale application, mean and standard deviation were applied in the statistical description,t test and analysis of variance were used for statistical inference, multivariate linear regression analysis was used for multivariate analysis.Results1.The Chinese version of the PSCSE table contains three dimensions of knowledge, skill and attitude, with a total of 34 entries.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 4 public factors, accumulating variance contribution rate was 70.593%.The content validity was 0.994 and each entry content I-CVI was 0.80 ~ 1.00.The Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.959 and each dimension Cronbach’s α coefficient was0.892,0.950 and 0.958 respectively.2.The Chinese version of the PSCSE was used to investigate the undergraduate nursing interns of a Wuhan’s third-grade hospital. The results showed that the Chinese version of PSCSE score was(140.37 ± 15.186),the total score rate was 82.570%.The knowledge dimension score was(17.94 ± 3.364),the skill dimension score was(81.68± 10.174),and the attitude dimension score was(40.75 ± 4.398).Each dimension score rate was 71.760%,81.680%,90.556%.3.Single factor analysis results showed sex, whether the school had patient safety related courses, whether students had learned patient safety related courses, whether students had taken patient safety-related training and whether there was a systematic need for patient safety knowledge had statistical significance(P <0.05).Diversity multi-step regression analysis results showed: sex, whether there was systematic learning patient safety knowledge were the influencing factors of patient safety competency(P <0.01).Conclusion1.The Chinese version of the PSCSE had good reliability and validity, and could be used to measure patient safety competency of undergraduate nursing interns in China.2.The patient safety competency level of undergraduate nursing interns in a Wuhan’s third-grade hospital was good.In the three dimensions of PSCSE for undergraduate nursing interns, the knowledge scores were relatively low. Therefore relevant strategies should be developed to improve the knowledge level of undergraduate nursing interns.3.Sex and whether there was systematic learning patient safety knowledge were the influencing factors of patient safety competency.
