Objective: In recent years, bullying involving left-behind children(LBC)has occurred frequently in school, but few studies have focused on this particular population. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between environment and bullying behaviors(as only bullies, only victims and bullies/victims)comparing LBC and non-left-behind children(NLBC).Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted in Chinese primary and junior high school students in Liaoning Province from January to February 2019.Methods: Using questionnaires, data were collected from a total of 2972 children aged 10-19 years.Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to explore the associated factors of bullying behaviors.Result: In this study, bullying behaviors were classified as only bullies, only victims and bullies/victims.They have the proportion of 18.8%,24.2% and 21.8% of left-behind children respectively. The effect of negative life events and classmate relationships on adolescents being the only victims and bullies/victims were significantly higher in the LBC group than in the NLBC group.(Only bullies: Negative life events : LBC:OR = 2.510,95%CI = 1.225-5.141,NLBC: OR = 1.453,95%CI = 1.124-1.878;Classmate relationship:LBC:OR= 3.059,95%CI = 1.748-5.354,NLBC: OR= 1.718,95%CI = 1.309-2.256;Bullies/victims:Negative life events:LBC:OR= 3.322,95%CI = 1.428-7.729,NLBC: OR= 2.063,95%CI = 1.497-2.843;Classmate relationship:LBC: OR = 2.960,95%CI = 1.626-5.388,NLBC: OR = 1.981,95%CI= 1.449-2.708)The effect of exposure to media violence on adolescents being the only bullies was significantly higher in the LBC group than in the NLBC group(OR = 2.119,95%CI =1.336-3.363,NLBC: OR = 1.366,95%CI = 1.060-1.760).Conclusion: Left-behind children were at high risk of bullying behaviors.Negative life events, classmate relationships, and exposure to media violence had higher impacts on bullying behaviors among LBC than that among NLBC.Actively improving the living environment was the key to reduce bullying behaviors among LBC.
