Objective: To investigate and analyze the current status of relocation stress of parents of children before PICU transfer. To clarify the relationship between illness uncertainty, coping style and relocation stress. To discuss the mediating effect of coping style between illness uncertainty and relocationstress. To provide a theoretical basis for constructing a nursing program to reduce the relocation stress of parents of children before PICU transfer. Methods: This study was a descriptive study that used the convenience sampling method to select parents of critically ill children transferred from PICU to general ward in a tertiary children’s hospital in Shenzhen from May 2022 to September 2022.Research tools included the General Information Questionnaire,Parent’s Perception Of Uncertainty Scale,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and Family Relocation Stress Scale.Data was entered using EXCLE.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS26.0 software and PROCESS plug-ins.Descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis were used to study the status and correlation of illness uncertainty, coping style and relocation stress in parents of children before PICU transfer.Univariate analysis and stratified regression analysis were used to explore the influencing factors of parental relocation stress before PICU transfer. The Bootstrap method was used to test the mediating effect of coping style between illness uncertainty and relocation stress.Using a two-sided test,a P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 1.The score of illness uncertainty of parents of children before PICU transfer was(73.53±19.0),which was at the middle level. The score of positive coping of the parents of children before PICU transfer was(27.36±3.85).The score of negative coping of the parents of children before PICU transfer was(8.03±3.28).The coping style of the parents of children before PICU transfer tended to be positive. The score of relocation stress of parents of children before PICU transfer was(40.26±8.99).2.Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that illness uncertainty was positively correlated with relocation stress(r=0.687,P<0.01),positive coping was negatively correlated with relocation stress(r=-0.431,P<0.01),negative coping was positively correlated with relocation stress(r=0.559,P<0.01),illness uncertainty was negatively correlated with positive coping(r=-0.446,P<0.01),and illness uncertainty was positively correlated with negative coping(r=0.426,P<0.01).3.Stratified regression analysis showed that age, transfer mode, illness certainty, positive response, negative response included in the regression equation of relocation stress of parents of children before PICU transfer(P<0.05).These five variables could explain 66.0% of the variance variation of relocation stress.4.Mediation effect analysis showed that coping styles of parents of children before PICU transfer had an incomplete mediating effect between illness uncertainty and relocation stress, with 95% CI[0.001,0.059] excluding 0,and the relative effect of mediating effect was 28.6%.Conclusions: 1.The illness uncertainty and relocation stress of parents of children before PICU transfer were moderate.their coping methods tended to be positive.2.There was a positive correlation between illness uncertainty and relocation stress. There was a negative correlation between positive coping and relocation stress. There was a positive correlation between negative coping and relocation stress. There was a negative correlation between illness uncertainty and positive coping. There was a positive correlation between illness uncertainty and negative coping.3.The influencing factors of relocation stress of parents of children before PICU transfer were the age of the child, transfer mode, illness uncertainty, positive coping and passive coping.4.The coping style of parents of children before PICU transfer was a mediating factor between illness uncertainty and relocation stress.Illness uncertainty not only directly positively affected relocation stress, but also indirectly affected relocation stress through coping style.
