Objectives:The purpose of this study is to understand the transition shock of new nurses in the stomatology specialty and the current situation of work adaptation barriers and coping styles, analyze the correlation between the three, explore the factors affecting the transition shock of new nurses in the stomatology specialty, provide strategic basis for reducing the transition shock of new nurses in the stomatology specialty, and promote the stability of the stomatology specialty nurse team. Methods:This study adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The first component study is the research on the transition shock of new nurses in the stomatology department, the status quo and relationship of work adaptation barriers and coping styles.A two-stage random sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey of 176 new nurses in the stomatology medical institutions in Kunming. The questionnaire includes the general information questionnaire, transition shock of newly graduated nurses Scale, simplified coping style questionnaire, and the work adaptation scale.Descriptive statistical methods were used to describe the general data of the subjects and the scores of each scale.Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the impact of demographic characteristics on the transition shock of new nurses in the stomatology specialty.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between the transition shock, work adaptation barriers and coping styles of new nurses in the stomatology specialty;Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis was used to analyze the impact of general demographic data, work adaptation and coping style of newly recruited oral nurses on transition shock. The second part is divided into qualitative research on the transition shock of new nurses in stomatology.According to the research results of the first part, through literature review and expert consultation, the nurses with high degree of transition shock were selected.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with new oral nurses using phenomenological research method, and content analysis was used to analyze the data,to understand the real feelings of the transition shock of new nurses in the process of role transformation, and further explore the influencing factors of the transition shock of new nurses in stomatology specialty.Results:1.The analysis of the current situation of this study shows that the total score of the transition shock of the new nurses in the stomatology department was(74.80±19.19),and the standardized score was 55.40%.The standardized scores of the four dimensions from high to low were:knowledge and skills(59.05%),body(57.35%),psychology(56.75%),and social culture and development(50.33%).The total score of simple coping style was(31.61±8.85),and the standardized score was52.68%.The standardized scores of the two dimensions from high to low were positive(65.51%)and negative(33.43%).The total score of work adaptation of newly recruited oral nurses in this study was(61.50±8.34)points,and the standardized score was 61.50%.The average score of the four dimensional items from high to low were:cultural adaptation(3.92±0.66)points,task mastery(3.88±0.63)points,interpersonal relationship(3.81±0.61)points,and role clarity(3.77±0.58)points.2.Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of transformation shock was negatively correlated with the total score of work adaptation(r=-0.329,P<0.05),the total score of transformation shock was negatively correlated with the positive coping style(r=-0.187,P<0.05),and was positively correlated with the negative coping style(r=0.344,P<0.05).3.The results of univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the scores of age, education level, practice location, length of oral nursing work, employment mode, and love of occupation(P<0.05).4.The results of multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that whether the new nurses love their profession, negative coping, interpersonal relationship, education level and age were the influencing factors of the transition shock of the new nurses in the stomatology department(R~2=0.399,P<0.001).5.According to the qualitative research results, the semi-structured interview theme analysis extracted three first-level themes and eight second-level themes:individual internal factors(lack of oral professional knowledge and skills, lack of professional social skills, weak adaptability, unclear career planning),work organization factors(inadequate allocation of oral nursing human resources, inadequate induction training),social factors(not respected and recognized, low social status of oral nurses). Conclusions:The transition shock of the new nurses in the stomatology department and the obstacles to work adaptation are at the medium level. When faced with environmental stress, most of the new oral nurses prefer to adopt a positive coping style, but they have difficulties in adapting to the role and work, and cannot successfully complete the role transformation, which needs to be paid attention to and improved by the managers.Nurses’age, education level, love of occupation, negative coping and interpersonal relationship have a significant impact on the transition shock of new nurses in stomatology specialty, the older the age,the lower the education level, the less love of career, the negative, and poor interpersonal relationships of nurses have a higher impact on transition shock. The reasons for the transition shock of new nurses in stomatology specialty mainly include individual internal factors, work organization factors and social environment.Individual factors affect the transition shock internally, and work organization and social factors affect the transition shock externally. It is suggested that nursing managers can formulate corresponding intervention measures from the above aspects to help improve the transition shock of new nurses in stomatology specialty and promote them to successfully complete the role transformation.
