Writing appropriate academic papers has become a necessary skill for international students studying for a degree in China. At the same time, among many linguistic features, the use of auxiliary words is difficult to grasp because of its particularity. Therefore,it is meaningful to explore the distribution of auxiliary words in the academic Chinese register, and the development of corpus linguistics also provides methodological convenience for the quantitative study of register differences. This research combines quantitative research with qualitative research, and takes 1350 authoritative journal papers in humanities(Chinese literature, history,Philosophy)and social sciences(Economics, sociology, law)as the research object.Through sorting out the domestic popular auxiliary word classification standards, selecting 60 auxiliary word items as research variables for statistics, and finally summarizing the use of modern Chinese auxiliary words in the academic Chinese register.Subsequently, the use of multivariate analysis of variance, multiple comparisons, combined with the situational analysis framework to compare and explain the differences between the various registers, trying to comprehensively analyze and describe the differences in the use of auxiliary words in the humanities and social sciences. It is found that, firstly, from the perspective of the use of auxiliary words, the use of various auxiliary words in authoritative academic journals of humanities and social sciences can be summarized as follows:The seven types of auxiliary words in order from high to low frequency of use are structural auxiliary words, tense auxiliary words, numeral auxiliary words, restrictive auxiliary words, enumerative auxiliary words,tense-aspect auxiliary words and comparative auxiliary words.Secondly,Based on ANOVA and multiple comparisons, there are differences in the use of auxiliary words in humanities and social sciences, such as the use of tense-aspect auxiliary words, comparative auxiliary words and numeral auxiliary words in Chinese literature and economics papers. In addition, the differences between different registers in the same field are objective. The differences within social sciences are more reflected in law and other two registers, while the differences within humanities are more reflected in philosophy and other two registers;Different registers across domains have similarities in the use of auxiliary words,For example, there is no significant difference between history and sociology in the use of five types of auxiliary words, such as tense-aspect auxiliary words, comparative auxiliary words and restrictive auxiliary words. Finally, combined with corpus analysis,it is found that the above differences are mainly due to the differences in situational factors such as the topic of each register and the purpose of communication. It is hoped that the results of this research can enrich the research results of academic Chinese register, and provide help for improving the awareness of academic register of foreign students and improving the thesis writing guidance course.
