The period between the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China was very special.Studies of Ci-poems in this period inherited the legacy of "Renaissance of Ci-poems of Qing Dynasty"(Qing Ci zhong xing)and inspired the beginning of modern Ci-poems studies. Therefore, the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China was a key stage in the transformation of Ci study from traditional to modern.During this period, the newspapers and periodicals that emerged in modern times developed rapidly because of their high efficiency, low price, and wide range, and therefore became the most active media. While the newspapers and periodicals promoted the popularization of new-style literature, they also had an impact on the dissemination of old-style literature. This article uses the "National Newspaper Index" database of the Shanghai Library to explore the development, transformation, and communication ecology of the Cipoems writing in periodicals, based on the collection and sorting of journals from around 1898 to 1923.It is mainly divided into three parts: The first part is the first chapter. It collects, counts, and organizes the Ci-poems of the journals published in the late Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China(1898-1923).A total of6155 poems were obtained. We divide them into two periods of "the end of Qing Dynasty" and "the beginning of the Republic of China",and analyses them respectively. The second part is the second chapter. It is titled "New Image and Old Literature",focusing on the subjects of Ci-poems writing. The adherents of the Qing Dynasty and the members of Nan Community(Nan she),a revolutionary group that spared no effort to discredit the adherents of the Qing Dynasty, chose the cultural prototype of the adherents of Song and Ming dynasties at the same time to construct their own identity and create the required discourse space. These old images were thus used in different new identities to strengthen their legitimacy in the new time and space condition. The third part is the third and fourth chapters, from the perspective of the new field and the new era, respectively discussing the changes and challenges faced by Ci-poems as an old-style literature, and how it develops and transforms.Chapter 3 focuses on "new fields and old literature",pointing out due to the social changes,a new field was formed around the Ci-poems studies, and contradictions and tensions filled it: Ci-poems writing has the characteristics of regional concentration and cross-regional singing;at the same time,in the new literary field,Ci-poems and its authoring subjects are marginalized for different reasons, but in this marginalized word, subjects that were originally marginalized in the public domain occupy a central position;finally, when Ci-poems as private were written in the public domain of periodicals, how the poet handles the contradiction between the private and public spheres is also worthy of attention. The last chapter discusses that under the literary wave of the new era,the writing of the old style of Ci-poems has the characteristics of coexistence of "integration " and "transition".Through the rhyme and chasing of the words of the predecessors, poets promoted the acceptance of the classics of the previous generations and the construction of the history of Ci-poems,and expressed their opinions and the style of the times;through the discovery of remote tones, the poets not only formed intertextuality with previous generations, but also engraved the imprint of the times;through the writing of new content and new forms, the poets tried to break through the traditional shackles and fetters, and make a new voice. This article believes that the creation of Ci-poems,like the study of Ci-poems,was not unchanged at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. The creation of Ci-poems in this period not only summarizes past achievements, but also had innovation.
