The nature of subtitle translation is unique. When translating subtitles,it is necessary to consider not only the verbal text, but also other modes such as images and sounds. The translator needs to consider the synchronization between various modes to achieve the best translation effect. This thesis adopted a multimodal perspective, established an analytical model on the basis of the original model of Delabastita and the adjusted model of Feng and Qian, and analyzed the different translation strategies adopted in the English subtitle of the total 10 episodes in the first season of the TV program China in the Classics. The thesis also evaluated the synchronization and tension of its multimodal elements and the final translation effect.China in the Classics is a Chinese cultural-promotion program broadcasted by CCTV in 2021,and later CGTN produced the English subtitle version. It is an important task of its English subtitle translation to ensure that foreign audiences can fully understand the content of the program while promoting Chinese culture. This thesis found that the subtitle translation of China in the Classics mainly adopted five translation strategies:"Addition","Omission","Addition+Omission","Substitution" and "Interpretation",and classified them into sub-categories according to different application scenarios.Through the analysis of specific examples of these five translation strategies, the study found that the verbal text translation and other modes actually complement and restrict each other.Due to the limitation of time and space, the amount of information that subtitles can carry is limited, while cultural programs have a large amount of cultural information to be delivered to audiences. In this situation, images, sounds and other modes can be used as available resources to supplement the missing information.Conversely, the limitation of other modes also makes the subtitle text unable to be separated from them. Therefore, achieving synchronization among different modes is not only a supplement for subtitle translation, but also a requirement for subtitle translation to achieve good results.
