The fact that Chinese and Spanish belong to different language families and that the gerunds in the two languages are not exactly equivalent leads to biases in the learning process of Chinese gerunds by native Spanish speakers.Based on this phenomenon, this thesis, guided by the theories of bias analysis, contrastive analysis and mediated language theory, uses bias analysis, contrastive analysis and statistical methods to analyse and collate the corpus from the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, the Global Chinese Mediated Language Corpus and the self-administered test questions, and concludes that native Spanish-speaking learners of Chinese will have single-word gerunds The study shows that native speakers of Spanish have three types of errors in their learning of gerunds: single-item gerunds,multiple-item gerunds and gerunds in special sentence types. It has been found that the complexity of the Chinese language, the negative transfer of Spanish, the misuse of learning strategies, the lack of teachers and the lack of accuracy in the teaching materials are the main factors that affect the learning of Spanish as a first language. In order to reduce learners’ errors in Chinese gerund order, learners should develop a sense of Chinese language and adopt correct learning strategies;teachers should acquire basic knowledge of the Spanish language and culture and optimise their teaching methods and strategies to maximise learners’ motivation;teaching materials should integrate the comparison of Chinese and Spanish gerunds so that students can understand the similarities and differences between the two gerunds intuitively, and design exercises that are close to students’ lives. This thesis draws attention to the Chinese language itself, the learners and the students. This thesis proposes teaching suggestions from four perspectives: the Chinese language itself, the learners, the teachers and the teaching materials,in order to provide some help and inspiration for native Spanish-speaking Chinese learners and Chinese teachers in Spanish-speaking regions.
