| Since its establishment,the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries(OPEC)has played a crucial role in stabilizing oil prices and promoting the development of oil trade.Relating to the most basic national production security,petroleum is surely playing an irreplaceable role in the development of future energy sources.The source text of the translation covers chapters 2-3 of the book OPEC and the World’s Energy Future,focusing on OPEC’s rivalry and cooperation in the world oil trade market and estimates the impact of technological developments on the energy economy.The aims of translating oil economy and trade texts is to get close to the readers by using the coherent language conveying the original text,and the communicative translation theory also emphasizes the “target reader-centered”.Therefore,communicative translation theory can be adopted to guide the translation of oil economic and trade texts.Based on the analysis of the source text,Newmark’s communicative translation theory is adopted to classify and analyze the problems encountered during the translation.At the lexical level,the translation techniques of terms and common nouns are summarized,such as equivalent translation,amplification,specialization of common nouns.At the syntactic level,linear translation,subsumption,recasting and splitting are applied in the translation of parenthetical and long sentences.At the discourse level,cohesion is emphasized from the translation of implicit and explicit information to improve the coherence and fluency of the text and increase the readability of the translation.It is expected that this report will provide a reference for the translation of oil economy and trade texts and useful materials for the study of petroleum texts. |
