Research On MTPE Strategies Of Railway Transportation Rules

In response to the national Going Global strategy,China’s railway transportation enterprises are setting foot in overseas markets and actively promoting Chinese standards,of which railway transportation technical rules are important parts.The English translation of these rules is of great significance.However,these rules are featured with huge volume and involves various specialties,and the translation usually sees a tight schedule.Adopting MTPE could be a solution.The thesis adopts a case study on Technical Management Regulation for Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway,which is featured with abundant terminologies,words or phrases with special industry meanings,and relatively unitary sentences with multiple logic levels.The thesis uses Google Translate to produce MT text,identifies and classifies errors according to error types and decision trees,corrects them according to PE guidelines,and conducts the case study.Through the case study,the thesis finds that the main error types include terminology,mistranslation,unidiomatic style,and redundancy;the repetition rate of terminology and redundancy are higher than other types.The main causes include poor ST quality,MT unable to meet the terminology requirements of specific projects,MT unable to identify the industry semantics of some words or phrases,MT unable to reasonably handle the logic of long Chinese sentences,and MT unable to reasonably tackle the repeated contextual contents that could be omitted.In view of these causes,the thesis proposes PE strategies,including preprocessing the ST,regulating terminology sources,verifying meanings of words and phrases,restructuring long sentences,improving discourse and adopting some technical strategies for assistance.
