| This translation report is the translation practice and study of the Introduction and the first seven sections of Chapter 1 of Environmental Policy and Public Health: Principal Health Hazards and Mitigation, and the book is written by Barry L.Johnson and Maureen Y.Lichtveld.It aims to arouse people’s awareness of the crisis to protect the ecological environment. The source text is a popular science text that describes a series of significant impacts of environmental problems on human life and provides mankind with timely measures to mitigate a series of hazards. On the basis of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, especially the basic principles of communicative translation theory, that is,the principle of receptor-oriented strategies, the principle of equivalence-expected effect as well as the principle of information accuracy, the translator takes the reader of the target language as a guide and translates the source text based on the text type and language function to enhance the fluidity and clarity of the translation. As there are many differences between the English and Chinese languages in terms of pragmatic habits, the translator combines typical cases in the source text and analyzes the source text at the lexical level, syntactic level and textual level respectively. At the lexical level,it adopts the omission, amplification and conversion. At the syntactic level,it includes the treatment of active and passive voice, reorganization of sentence patterns. At the textual level, the discourse of cohesion and coherence are achieved by adding logical connectives and substitutions. The translator summarizes some translation experiences and perceptions from this translation practice, including the selection of appropriate translation skills, and the selection of the correct logical connectors, and hoping to provide new ideas for future translation practice activities to improve her own translation level and translation quality. |
