A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Traveling Around China-Hainan(Excerpts)

The construction of Hainan International Tourism Island is a major strategy for the country to develop tourism.How to promote an equivalent English translation of the Hainan Tourism Guide to the world has become an important part of foreign publicity work.The source text selected for this translation practice is Traveling around China-Hainan(the Eastern Route Area),and the English translation text can be used as a reference material for Hainan’s tourism publicity to attract more overseas tourists.This text mainly introduces various delicacies,beautiful scenery,and other information in the eastern region of Hainan province.The language is vivid and easy to understand,combining the objectivity and practicality of tourism texts.Guided by the theory of ecological translation,this report analyzed the language structure and characteristics of the source text,scientifically demonstrated the translation practice task from three perspectives: linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension,and summarized suitable translation methods for travel brochure.At the linguistic level,the translator,in order to achieve clear and fluent language expression in the translated text,focused on three aspects:the omission of four character words,the literal translation of personification rhetoric,and supplement to dish names.At the cultural dimension level,the translator applied the techniques of annotation,addition and paraphrase to the translation of scenic spots,names of government offices and folk culture that are deemed important and difficult,so as to break cultural barriers and achieve the balance of ecological translation for both Chinese and English at the cultural dimension level.At the communicative level,the translator ensured the semantic integrity and accuracy of the translation by supplementing subjects to non-subject sentences,highlighting logical coherence,and splitting and restructuring complex sentences.In addition,based on the concept of adaptation and selection,the translator actively achieved effective adaptive transformation in the process of Chinese-English translation,thereby presenting an equivalently efficient translation for target language readers.Through this translation practice,the practicality and guiding role of ecological translation theory in the translation of travel guide texts have been verified,which can promote Chinese-English translation of tourism-related texts in Hainan region.The translation methods summarized during this translation practice may provide useful references for future translators engaging in related fields.
