In recent years, the importance of mental health problems among school students in China has gradually increased, requiring increased attention to mental health problems and improvement of students’ psychological literacy levels.Self-acceptance refers to an individual’s ability to view and evaluate himself or herself objectively and to present a positive and open attitude in terms of cognition and emotion.Several studies have proven that self-acceptance has an important impact on all aspects of mental health and can effectively predict the degree of mental health of college students.Currently, various forms of group counseling activities are the main interventions for self-acceptance in China and abroad.Mandala painting is a kind of expressive art therapy, which was developed by psychologist Jung by integrating the theories of Chinese and Western cultures and psychotherapy, and has both the characteristics and unique advantages of painting therapy.According to Jung’s theory,self-nature is the inner world of the mind, and the process of drawing mandalas is the process of self-nature manifestation, which also includes the development of self-naturalization.Self-identity is the process of gradually recognizing where one is unique and at the same time an ordinary human being. This goal is consistent with self-acceptance.Therefore,this study aims to investigate the intervention effect of mandala painting on college students’ self-acceptance.In this study, sample size was estimated by G*Power 3.1 software,self-acceptance questionnaire was administered, and 68 subjects were recruited and screened among college students and randomly divided into a mandala painting intervention group and a control group. The mandala painting group completed six painting tasks within three weeks and was measured again after the sixth painting was completed. The control group did not participate in any drawing tasks and only completed the questionnaire again after the three-week interval for the posttest. The pre-and post-test method was used to measure and collect data. The data analysis of this study was conducted using SPSS 26.0 software using independent sample t-test,paired sample t-test and repeated measures ANOVA as well as case study analysis of the paintings. The results of the study showed that the intervention group had a significant increase in all dimensions of self-acceptance and total scores(p<0.05).In the control group, there was no significant change in the total self-acceptance score and self-evaluation dimensions(p>0.05),but there was a significant increase in the self-acceptance dimensions(p<0.05).The intervention group had a significantly higher effect on self-acceptance than the control group. The findings of this study are as follows:(1)The ability of mandala painting to significantly increase the level of self-acceptance of college students(2)Mandala painting combined with post-painting reflection is an effective way to carry out mental health work in universities...
