In recent years, school adaptation is one of the important indicators to measure the physical and mental health development of middle school students, and has received continuous attention from experts in the field of mental health.Currently,Research on school adaptation mainly examines the impact of students’ internal factors and external environment.Previous studies have shown that students’ coping styles can have an impact on their school adaptation;Family factors are also important external factors that affect students’ school adaptation. The junior high school stage is a critical period for the healthy development of an individual’s body and mind,as well as an age full of conflicts and contradictions. At this special age, junior high school students are eager to break away from the constraints of their parents, but they are not truly independent and still rely on their parents. Therefore,at this sensitive and special age, parents still have an important impact on junior high school students. However,Previous scholars paid more attention to parenting and parent-child relationships, ignoring the impact of parental relationships on junior high school students, especially those with contradictory and conflicting parental relationships.Previous studies have shown that parental conflict can trigger emotional insecurity and negative coping styles in children. However, few scholars have studied whether parental conflict leads to a series of school adjustment’s problem among junior high school students, such as decreased academic performance and poor interpersonal relationships. Therefore, this study aims to explore the current situation of school adaptation and the relationship between parental conflict, emotional insecurity, and coping styles and school adaptation among junior high school students.Using the questionnaire survey method,600 junior middle school students in Guang Xi were investigated with Child Perception of Parental Conflict Scale,Emotional Security Scale,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire and junior middle school students’ school adaptation scale to explore the relationship between perceived parental conflict, emotional insecurity, coping styles, and school adaptation among junior high school students. The following results were obtained:(1)The overall school adaptation level of junior high school students is well. There is no significant difference between boys and girls. There are significant differences in school adaptation among junior high school students in terms of only child and grade. The school adaptation of children with siblings is better than that of only children, and the overall adaptation of schools in the first grade of junior high school is better.(2)Parental conflict significantly positively predicted emotional insecurity and negative coping styles, and significantly negatively predicted positive coping and school adaptation;Emotional insecurity significantly negatively predicts negative coping styles and school adaptation;Positive coping styles significantly positively predict school adaptation;Negative coping styles significantly negatively predict school adaptation.(3)Emotional insecurity and coping styles play a partial mediating role between parental conflict and school adaptation,respectively.(4)emotional insecurity and negative coping styles play a chain mediating role between parental conflict and school adaptation. This study clarifies the impact of parental conflict on junior high school students’ school adjustment and its mechanisms, enriches theoretical research on junior high school students’ school adjustment. It also provides new guidance for families and schools on how to improve the school adaptation level of middle school students.Call on parents and friends to avoid vicious conflicts in front of their children, respect and protect their emotional security, and focus on cultivating their children’s ability to actively respond to problems, promoting their school adaptation. At the same time,we call on schools to consciously improve students’ school adaptation level and carry out mental health education courses that enhance students’ ability to actively respond to setbacks.Only through joint cooperation between family and school can we jointly promote the physical and mental health development of students.
