Translation Report Of Climate Fiction Reviews Under The Guidance Of Linguistic Adaptation Theory

As emerging literature,climate fiction(cli-fi)concentrates on the impacts of climate change and global warming in the future in terms of political,social,and cultural issues,encouraging people to reflect on climate challenges.Since there are many fictional expressions in book reviews of cli-fi as well as complicated structures of sentences,the translator can apply linguistic adaptation to make linguistic choices under corresponding contexts.CLI-FI:A Companion,edited by Axel Goodbody and Adeline Johns-Putra,contains 29 cli-fi reviews of fiction and films.The translator selects three reviews from the book as the source contents of the translation analysis.In translating cli-fi reviews,the translator needs to consider the background information of the original novels and kinds of fictional words and complex expressions.To solve the difficulties led by specific contexts and cultures,the translator improves the translation with four perspectives of the theory:contextual correlates of adaptability,structural objects of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability,and salience of the adaptation processes.In the meantime,the translator demonstrates the advantages of applying Linguistic Adaptation Theory(LAT)when translating cli-fi reviews written under specific contexts.The analysis indicates that fictional words and complicated sentences are translated more clearly and concisely under the guidance of LAT.LAT inspires translators to make linguistic choices through self-consciousness and textual coherence dynamically and then better convey the meanings of original texts.At the same time,the readability of translation will be enhanced through LAT,aiming to increase readers’ interest in cli-fi and raise their awareness about environmental protection.
