A Report On The E-C Translation Of Economic News In China Daily Under The Guidance Of Translation Variation Theory

As China’s comprehensive strength continues to grow along with its economic development,the economic ties between China and the world are deepening.In this process,Chinese people are eager to learn more about overseas economic policies and its potential impact on China.So economic news plays a crucial role in this regard.And the translation variation theory(TVT)provides a guidance for translating economic news.The theory includes seven translation variation methods,and the rational use of these techniques is the key to improving the quality of translation.Taking economic articles from well-known media such as The Economist and The Guardian as translation materials,the author selects four translation methods,namely addition,deletion,combination and adaptation,based on their usage frequency.The paper analyses in detail the application of the TVT in economic news and concludes that adaptation is the most frequently used translation method.Furthermore,the unique features of economic news pose higher demands on translators’ linguistic competence.And the three elements of the TVT interact with one another and determine the strategies to be employed.For instance,addition can be applied to elucidate economic terminology,while combination can be applied to combine those parts that are similar in content and closely related in logic.The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter One provides the background information.Chapter Two describes the three steps of translation.Chapter Three introduces the definition and characteristics of economic news,the three elements of the TVT,and seven translation variation methods.Chapter Four is a case study,and the author analyzes the application of four translation methods(addition,deletion,combination,and adaptation)from lexical,syntactical,and textual levels.Chapter Five includes the main findings,limitations,and suggestions.
