A Report On The Revision Of C-E Press Translation Project For International Publicity Of Chinese Government Portal Based On Mossop’s Revision Parameter Model

Press translation for international publicity is an important way to boost a country’s cultural soft power,but the research on the revision of press translation for international publicity has received little attention and insufficient research results in the domestic translation field.With the rapid development and gradual maturity of the language service industry,translation activities present a pattern of collaboration and multi-participation in projects.Because of the short deadlines and heavy workload of large-scale projects,it is challenging for translators to ensure the quality of translation on their own,and since self-revision may occasionally be careless,other-revision is essential.Revision becomes especially crucial as a part of translation quality assurance.However,there is very little domestic research on translation revision and a severe paucity of courses linked to it in China’s institutions of higher learning.Many revisers struggle when faced with revision responsibilities because they have not received formal training or theoretical guidance before starting their work.The author was fortunate enough to work as a reviser in a press translation project for international publicity in a certain translation company,and this experience allowed the author to come up close and personal with the work of professional revisers in large-scale projects for the first time.Based on this practical experience,this report summarizes the workflow of revisers in significant foreign affairs translation projects.The materials in this report were chosen from the news for international publicity and English translations of a Chinese government portal from September 2021 to September 2022.This collection of items mostly represents China’s policies in politics,economy and foreign affairs.The original text is a news text with objective,accurate and formal language.The translation revision report is based on Mossop’s revision parameter model,categorizes the revised contents of the translated texts according to the revision parameters,and adopts a case study approach to explore the processes and skills of translation revision and summarize the revision methods of and strategies for press translation for international publicity.Revision methods of press translation for international publicity concluded in the report include reading source text to comprehend,bilingual reading to compare,searching to make modifications,using machine-supported tools to make checks,proofreading to confirm,and rereading to evaluate.Revision strategies for press translation for international publicity are also proposed in the report to address issues related to common international parlance,dynamic alternation of current events and policy sensitivity.It is hoped that the report can provide some theoretical reference for the translation practice of press translators for international publicity and the revision of press translation for international publicity,and advance the research on translation revision in China.
