A Report On The E-C Translation Of Communication Technologies For Networked Smart Cities (Excerpts)

The source text of this translation project is selected from the book Communication Technologies for Networked Smart Cities.The book mainly discusses the application of communication technologies in smart cities along with the potential future research perspectives,and that the combination of modern communication technologies and urban infrastructure improves the operation efficiency of cities.At the same time,it expands the coverage of intelligent equipment,improves the utilization efficiency of resources,innovates the operation mode of various urban systems,and provides modern and high-quality services for residents.The writer chooses Chapter 2 and Chapter 11 of this book for translation practice.Chapter 2 mainly introduces the application of narrowband Io T technologies in smart cities,and Chapter 11 mainly presents the application of blockchain in smart cities and enhancement of its security and privacy.The two parts selected by the writer involve the content of smart cities,communication technologies,blockchain and other fields,which belong to science and technology text,and from the perspective of function,they belong to information text.Guided by the framework of “Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation(CEA framework)”,the writer analyzes the issues and the solutions encountered in the process of Chinese translation.From the point of comprehension,the writer tries to figure out the source text from obscure words and context;about the expression,the writer analyzes this text from the perspectives of avoiding Europeanized Chinese,cohesion and coherence of sentences;from the perspective of adaptation,the writer describes three levels: amplification and omission,transformation and adjustment of word order and splitting translation.This translation report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly presents the background of the translation project,the source text,and the significance of the topic selection.The second chapter describes the preparations before translation,the translation process,and further revisions.The third chapter mainly introduces the framework of “CEA” proposed by Li Changshuan,and at the same time,the writer also combines it with other scholars’ related theories as support to finish the Chinese translation.The fourth chapter discusses the report-case analysis and summarizes the problems found in the translation process by analyzing cases and provides corresponding solutions from three perspectives of comprehension,expression and adaptation.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which reviews the whole translation project and summarizes the writer’s deficiencies and findings.On the whole,the writer has completed the writing of this translation project report,aiming to test her translation learning output and improve her translation ability so as to provide ideas and guidance for her future translation work and also provide some reference experience for other translators.Meanwhile,through this translation practice,the writer hopes to popularize some knowledge on communication technologies for the networked smart cities to interested people and provide a certain degree of valuable reference for their effective development in China.
