With the deepening of the curriculum reform of compulsory basic education,in order to implement the fundamental goal of establishing moral education and realizing the new task of educating students in the English subject,the English Curriculum Standard for General High School(2017 Edition)puts forward the View of English Learning Activities(VELA)for the first time and takes it as a basic form of teaching organization and an important way to cultivate core literacy in the English subject(Ministry of Education,2018).The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)once again proposes to practice the View of English Learning Activities.(VELA)English reading teaching is an important carrier of the language input and output process and is the main way to achieve an organic combination of the instrumental and humanistic aspects of English education.The development of reading skills and reading strategies is an important part of English language teaching,and the use of reading strategies helps students to set clear English learning goals and plans,and to monitor,reflect on and adjust them during the reading process(metacognitive strategies),it also helps students understand and use various reading skills and strategies,such as prediction,skimming,guessing the meaning of words,inferring,understanding the structure of chapters and the denotative meaning of indicative pronouns,enhance interest and competence in reading(cognitive strategies),when students are in trouble,they could request clarification or seek help when they encounter difficulties in communication(communicative strategies),it also helps students to maintain initiative and motivation,have good attitudes,reduce anxiety and maintain confidence in learning English(emotion management strategies)(Ministry Of Education,2022)This study attempts to construct a new approach in reading teaching design,which is “Studying the text--Objectives--Understanding--Applying--Creating--Evaluation”,and applies it to practical teaching.The following two research questions were designed:(a)What is the impact of reading teaching based on the View of English learning activity construct on junior high school students’ English reading strategies;(b)What is the effect of reading teaching based on the View of English learning activity construct on junior high school students’ English reading comprehension ability.After more than four months of empirical research,the following conclusions were drawn: the view of English learning activities helps students to master and use English reading strategies.There has been a significant contribution to the improvement of students’ English reading comprehension skills in the following four areas of reading ability: namely,analyzing arguments and evaluating texts,word knowledge and skills,understanding strategies and structural meaning,and understanding the author’s creative work.It also has a significant effect on improving the English reading performance of junior high school students.
