A Report On Guide Interpreting At Wuhou Shrine Exhibition

The interpretation report is based on a guide interpreting in August,2022 at an exhibition of Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum named " Travelling a Thousand Miles through the Three Kingdoms".The clients are a couple of American citizens,Matt Hixson and his wife Hope Hixson,who have been living in China for more than a decade.They have certain mastery of Chinese language and keen interest in Chinese history and culture.The couple expressed their appreciation for the quality of interpretation,albeit there is still plenty of problems and challenges in the entire process—The interpreting of some long/difficult sentences,tongue slips,culture-loaded words,and etc could be below the expectation.Meanwhile,in accordance with the varying of interpreting difficulty and workload capacity of the medium,the interpreter needs to apply optimized strategies to achieve better outcome.And this article has cast reflection on the process of interpreting,and in all,three major challenges are being represented:misunderstanding of information;unbalanced sentence structure and improper productions.The report just adopts the interpretation strategies of the Interpretive Theory which was invented by Seleskovitch,who intended to tackle a triangle of interpreting process,including addition,omission,synthesization,division and conversion with the organic usage and coordination of interpreting strategies.After the analysis,the report continues to fathom methods on purpose of improving the holistic quality of interpretation.As a systematic theory,the Interpretive Theory is relatively mature in guiding the interpreting.As for the report,it poses a specific analysis in interpreting problems.And the author hopes this article could not only provide some reflection for himself but also offer some analytic help for others.
