Homework is the task assigned by teachers in order to check students’ learning efficacy,which is the essential extension and supplementary of class teaching.In order to consolidate students’ learning effects,the “Double Reduction” policy requires schools and teachers to improve homework’s efficiency and reduce the amount of homework from every aspect.As a result,it’s indispensable for junior English teachers to discover novel ways to reduce students’ learning burden,improve the efficiency of homework and cultivate students’ core competencies.Based on Social Constructivism Theory and Van Lier’s Practice Theory,this thesis takes351 students of grade 8 and 7 junior English teachers in Dalian as the research subjects and puts forward the plural junior English homework design.This thesis is conducted by taking the use of questionnaire and interview and aims to answer three questions:(1)What is the status quo of junior English homework under the “Double Reduction” policy?(2)What are the principles of plural junior English homework design?(3)What practical effects do the application of plural junior English homework design make on students’ core competencies?The study has discovered that the status quo of junior English homework are presented with four problems: The purpose of homework neglects the development of students’ comprehensive language ability;The content of homework is lack of the individual choices;The forms of homework overlook the homework enjoyments;The cooperation awareness of homework is shortage of teachers’ attention.In order to solve the existing problems,the principles of the plural junior English homework design are: Stratifying the “controlled” basic homework to strengthen students’ language ability;Arranging diverse homework types to intrigue students’ learning interest;Adopting cooperative homework to cultivate students’ cooperative awareness.Then after carrying out the plural homework design for three months,students’ improvement in their language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability are displayed through teacher’s observation and their interviews.To sum up,this thesis provides a reference for the assignment of junior English homework under the “Double Reduction” policy and it’s beneficial to the cultivation of students’ core competencies.Therefore,it also possesses a few pedagogical enlightenment from theory and practice aspects.
