| Popular science work is work with the main purpose of popularizing scientific knowledge and disseminating scientific ideas.The success of popular science work will also expand social influence and show scientific charm to a large extent.China’s international status is at a rising stage,and the quality of the English translation of Chinese popular science works plays an important role in cultural exchange and dissemination.The translation report is guided by the principle of "three-dimensional transformation" of the theory "eco-translatology",and the report summarizes the English translation practice of the popular science book From Geocentric to Heliocentric: How the Discoveries Are Made.The translation was analyzed from three aspects: linguistic dimension,cultural dimension,and communicative dimension.In the linguistic dimension,the translator processes the translation based on comprehensively considering the different linguistic characteristics of Chinese and English.In the cultural dimension,the original text contains a large number of cultural-loaded words and proper nouns,and how to deal with the translation of these parts is an important and difficult task.In the communicative dimension,the translator’s primary consideration is whether the translation can be read and understood and whether it can fulfill the communicative intent of the text.By analyzing and summarizing the cases,the author finds that the ecotranslatology theory is feasible in guiding the translation of astronomical science works.The translation strategies and methods summarized by the author can be applied to the translation of popular science texts.They can serve as a reference for other translators when translating such texts. |
