Xu Shipu Prose Research

Xu Shipu was one of the most influential writers of the Ming and Qing dynasties in Jiangxi.After entering the Qing Dynasty,he refused to serve the new dynasty and lived in seclusion in the Western Mountains,holding fast to his moral integrity until his death.He was a poet and a writer of great talent,and his works were admired by Qian Qian Yi and Ai Nanying.His extant prose is mainly collected in the Yudun Collection,which is of high literary and historical value for its breadth of content.Chapter 1 examines Xu Shipu’s life and travels.Combined with various historical materials,local county chronicles and the narration of personal experiences in Xu Shipu’s works,Xu Shipu’s life trajectory is sorted out.Examining his travels helps to further explore his literary thought and cultural mentality.Chapter 2 deals with Xu Shipu’s view of literature.Xu Shipu advocated the "self-attainment temperament" of literature on the basis of real life in view of the literati’s immortal writing tendency;put forward the methodology of "reading books to nourish qi",advocating extensive reading of six classics and hundreds of schools to enrich personality cultivation and academic literacy;It also puts forward its own aesthetic requirements from five aspects: article concept,content and form,rhythm,literary style and vocal rhythm,which not only emphasizes the social function of the article,but also pays attention to the emotion and aesthetics of the article.Chapter 3 explores the ideological thrust of Xu Shipu’s prose.Xu Shipu is rich in prose,he pays attention to social reality and the suffering of the people,and needles the shortcomings of the times;Celebrating the righteous and honest benevolent men of Geng Jie in an attempt to save the world;Write personal emotions and life,and place your thoughts on it.Chapter 4 deals with the artistic characteristics of Xu Shipu’s prose.His prose has a strong artistic appeal and distinct personality characteristics,inherits the tradition of writing people in historical records,and portrays characters from multiple angles;Be good at discussing reason,with the intention of writing first,and integrating reason;The landscape travelogue writes the scenery of the hometown West Mountain with a fresh pen,mixed with anecdotes and legends,giving it a mysterious color,and blending the situation.In short,this paper takes Xu Shipu’s prose as the research object,analyzes Xu Shipu’s life and travels,literary theory and creative practice,and strives to describe Xu Shipu’s character,prose creation thoughts and moral conduct from multiple angles,understand his history as a relic,and reveal his prose artistic characteristics and spiritual and cultural value.
