| Herbal painting is a way to understand herbal medicine more effectively with the help of iconography.In this paper,we take the painted botanicals in the Lvchanyan Materia Medica and the Shanxi Materia Medica as the object of study,and try to explore the inherent connectedness of the botanical drawings of the materia medica by comprehensively comparing their similarities and differences in terms of their drawing methods,artistic language and theoretical perspectives on painting.The study explores the artistic value of materia medica painting through commonalities and characteristics.The first part of the study is an overview of the genesis of the two atlases and the artistic biographies of the Southern Song painter Wang Jie and the contemporary painter Shi Bingyou.The second part is a comparison of the botanical painted compositions of the "Lvchanyan Materia Medica" and the "Shanxi Materia Medica".The first is a comparison of the similarities and differences between the common compositions in the two atlases:the folding composition,the whole plant composition,the juxtaposition composition and the marginal composition.The second part compares the unique compositions of the two atlases,the main-subordinate and intercepting compositions of the Lvchanyan Materia Medica and the panoramic and segmented compositions of the Shanxi Materia Medica.The third section compares the expression of the lines,which are rigorous and neat,reflecting the programmatic nature of traditional chinese painting.The lines in Herbs of Shanxi are a combination of outline and uncut painting,and are appropriately weakened,with the lines serving as an aid to outline the form.The fourth section compares the colouring styles,firstly in terms of differences in colour concepts: the traditional philosophical view of colour and the multicultural fusion of colour concepts are compared.This is followed by an exploration of the differences in the use of colour presented by the two.The fifth part is a comparison of the relevance of the botanical colouring of the Lvchanyan Materia Medica and the Shanxi Materia Medica.On the one hand,the relevance of the materia medica to the pictorial style of flower and bird painting is explored;on the other hand,the guarding and development of the materia medica,future trends and areas of application are explored in the context of the current multicultural era.Using scientific methods such as comparative methods,image analysis,fieldwork,interviews and interdisciplinary research,this study breaks down the barriers that stand between traditional culture and modern aesthetic interests while comparing in depth the characteristics of the botanical painting art of the Lvchanyan Materia Medica with that of the Shanxi Materia Medica,highlighting the practical and artistic value of materia medica painting through the unique language of the art of materia medica painting to show the beauty of ecology. |
