| Woodcut printmaking is a unique art form with a long and varied history in China. From the 1930 s,when the concept of creative printmaking was introduced to China,it began to ’take root’ on Chinese soil.It was not until the emerging woodcut movement, initiated by Lu Xun,that woodcut printmaking began to develop strongly in China. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japan, the predecessor of the Jinsui Daily was founded by the Party Committee of the Jinxi District of the Communist Party of China to meet the needs of the War of Resistance, and during its nine years of existence, the prints published in the newspaper played a combat role in propagating the War of Resistance against Japan and the War of Liberation. This article therefore takes the woodcut prints in the Jinsui Daily as the object of study.Through an analysis of the background and ideological content of the newspaper’s woodcut prints,it examines the characteristics of the prints during the propaganda of the War of Resistance and the War of Liberation, and thus realises their combat function and leads the people of the Jinsui Border Region to victory in the war.The text is divided into five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the background and conditions for the development of woodcut prints in the Jinsui Daily. The second and third chapters focus on the ideological content of the woodcut prints in Jinsui Daily, with the second chapter focusing on the news pages,i.e.the prints in the first three pages.Chapter Three focuses on the prints in the supplements, which are rich in variety and focus on calls for unity and solidarity, encouraging women to integrate into society, and showing the love between the people and the military.Chapter 4 focuses on the characteristics of the woodcut prints in the Jinsui Daily: the large quantity and quality of the prints, the rich variety of prints, the great influence they have had,the artistic nature of the prints, the fusion of European style and tradition, the localised characteristics and the strong journalistic character.Chapter 5 builds on the previous article and summarises the combat function of woodcut prints in the Jinsui Daily in the Anti-Japanese and Liberation Wars, exploring the new changes they brought to the Jinsui border area and how they guided the people to understand and support Marxism and to win the war. |
