Primary education is the basic stage of school education.Since modern times,European and American countries generally attach importance to the development of primary education in order to popularize education and improve the overall quality of the people.Under the influence of the West,the Qing government carried out the school system reform in the early 20 th century,which set up primary schools in Yunnan and developed modern primary education.Yunnan primary education started in the late Qing Dynasty and developed gradually during the Republic of China.Many problems are of great academic value,but the academic circle pays insufficient attention to them.Yunnan primary education presents unique development characteristics,with obvious regional characteristics and historical deposits,so it is of considerable academic significance to conduct in-depth analysis and research on it.Based on the retrospection of Yunnan’s traditional primary education and its modern development process,this paper discusses the basic situation of Yunnan’s primary education from tradition to modern times,and carries out in-depth discussion on the implementation of primary education and the changes of educational administrative system,teacher training and fund management in various periods,so as to present the overall appearance of Yunnan’s primary education in modern times.In order to further analyze the effect of the popularization of primary education and the cultivation of national consciousness in Yunnan during this period,finally,the shortcomings of the development of primary education in Yunnan during this period are summarized and analyzed.With the development of Yunnan primary education in modern times as a clue and based on a large number of archival materials,this paper discusses the transformation of Yunnan primary education from tradition to modern times.Through the research,it is concluded that the conflict of ideas,the influence of interests and other factors have a great impact on the transformation of primary education in modern Yunnan.At the same time,the gradual establishment of the new primary education has played a positive role in shaping and cultivating young people in the new era.The promotion of new primary education in border areas is conducive to the cultivation of nation-state consciousness and the consolidation of border areas.
