A Report On C-E Translation Of The History Of The State Of Qi (Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

The report is based on the translation of Chapter Ⅵ of The History of the State of Qi,which selects three sections of The First Lord Protector: Duke Huan of Qi,The Wise and Capable Prime Minister Guan Zhong and Guan Zhong and Guanzi for translation practice.The chapter mainly tells Duke Huan of Qi,with the help of Guan Zhong and other wise men,assembled the feudal lords many times,brought unity and order to the entire realm,carried out severe reform,enriched the country and strengthened the army.The translation of The History of the State of Qi gives readers more opportunities to learn about the history and development of the State of Qi.The book is highly academic and authoritative,and its translation has a certain degree of academic reference value.The book falls into the category of informative texts by telling the history of Qi.Informative texts emphasize the information function of language,and the language has strong logic.The book contains a large number of culture-loaded words,classical Chinese quotes and other translation difficulties.With the lack of relevant cultural background,it will be difficult for target language readers to understand the target text.Therefore,this report intends to resort to the communicative translation theory to conduct translation practice.The author uses different translation strategies to solve various translation problems at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,the translation methods of conversion of part of speech,amplification and interpretation are adopted.At the syntactic level,the translation methods of conversion of voice and combination are put into practice.At the textual level,the translation methods of cohesion and restructuring are applied.All these strategies are to ensure the fluency and accuracy of the target text and achieve the purpose of cultural communication.Through the analysis of the typical cases,the author believes that it is feasible to apply the communicative translation theory into the translation of informative texts.In the translation process,the translator should pay attention to the cultural differences between the author of the source text and the readers of the target text so as to make the translation realize the purpose of cultural communication.In addition,a solid language foundation and sufficient knowledge reserve are indispensable for an excellent translator.
