All texts, according to Peter Newmark, can be classified into three types: expressive, informative and vocative.Informative texts feature a great deal of information and a strong practicality, attaching importance to the presentation of content.“Italian Neorealism”,a chapter from popular literature book Traditions in World Cinema falls into the type of informative texts. The translation of terms and long sentences in the source text presents a great challenge to translators.Communicative translation is oriented to target readers. It stresses target language readers’ understandings and responses as well as the real communicative effect. It requires translators to conform to the norms of target language so that both content and language will be readily acceptable and comprehensible to target readers. This approach is suitable to the translation of informative texts. Therefore, the thesis will be carried out in the light of Communicative Translation Theory. The thesis, based on the translation task, explores how Communicative Translation Theory throws light on translating terms, long sentences and paragraphs in informative texts so that it can propose some ways to translate such texts.
