Du Fu arrived in Yun’an(now Yunyang,Chongqing)in the autumn of the first year of Yongtai(765),and moved to Kuizhou(now Fengjie,Chongqing)in the late spring of the second year of Yongtai(766,changed to Dali in November). In the first month of the third year of Dali(768),he left Kuizhou and went to Jiangling.During his stay in Kuizhou for over two years,Du Fu composed 467 poems(including Yun’an poems),which was his most vigorous period of poetry creation.Kuizhou poetry also became a representative work of Du Fu’s later poetry due to its artistic style of being full of ambiguity and frustration.During his residence in Kuizhou,Du Fu shifted his focus to writing about himself due to the limitations of a closed environment,as well as the influence of special climate and customs. Moreover,at this time,Du Fu had been "sick for over a hundred years",and the urgency of life also deepened his attention to himself. He often portrays himself through the strokes of poetry, showcasing his true and diverse images in Kuizhou poetry. In order to fully showcase Du Fu’s image in Kuizhou poetry,it is first necessary to clarify the specific scope of Kuizhou poetry.Furthermore,in the organization of Kuizhou poetry, the author sorts out Du Fu’s travels in Kuizhou and analyzes Du Fu’s creative mentality during his Kuizhou period. In Kuizhou poetry,Du Fu’s first impression is of his aging and illness, which constitute the main characteristics of his external image; His lazy and honest inner qualities are demonstrated in daily work and socializing. The reality of being in the Jianghu and still worrying about his homeland reflects Du Fu’s wandering and lonely social image. In order to reconcile the contradiction between reality and ideals,Du Fu used poetry to inspire him, reviewing his life in poetry, and focusing on shaping the image of a poet in the spiritual world. Its image can be summarized as: the image of a farmer who has become a wealthy man due to decay, the image of a pedantic scholar who has become an isolated city due to foreign guests, and the image of a poet who knows the gains and losses of his writings through the ages.Du Fu displays diverse images in Kuizhou poetry, thanks to his use of various writing methods, which can be summarized in three aspects: direct description and environmental contrast, self comparison and use of allusions, self mockery and irony. Some of Du Fu’s Kuizhou poems, like diaries and travel notes, record his daily life, and their images are either directly displayed or highlighted against the backdrop of Kuizhou mountains and waters.Facing the exotic scenery of Kuizhou,Du Fu expressed his admiration for things and expressed his admiration for his own background by chanting about things around him.Due to his similar life experiences,Du Fu often used his nostalgia for the ancient sages to infuse his sorrow. His self-image mixed ancient and modern, blending similarities and differences, making it more rich and profound. Finally,in some self deprecating plays,Du Fu used joking and satirical writing techniques to deconstruct his ideal image, hiding his true self-image in a relaxed and humorous tone.Du Fu presented his self-image in Kuizhou poetry in a three-dimensional and multidimensional manner, and some retrospective poems can even be called autobiographical poems. However,in these poems,Du Fu is not limited to showcasing his personal life journey, but rather showcases his self-image in a broad historical context, blending personal worries with the sadness of his family and country, and his image is more abundant and profound.Since the Song Dynasty, with the continuous "sanctification" of his image,Du Fu can only present himself as a single and rigid "poetic sage" image to future generations, and his true image is often obscured by the halo of "poetic sage".By showcasing the self-image in Du Fu’s Kuizhou poetry,we aim to restore the true image of Du Fu as an ordinary person.
