At present, the aging of China’s population is becoming increasingly severe, and the issue of elderly care has become a focal point of social concern. How to deal with the crisis of population aging is not only related to the overall development of the country, but also to the well-being of hundreds of millions of people and social harmony and stability. This has attracted widespread attention from the government and the academic community.Considering the excellent tradition of filial piety culture in China and the family-based elderly care model, exploring the mechanism of intergenerational support and subjective well-being of the elderly has become a necessary means to promote positive aging from a theoretical perspective. This study, from the perspective of positive psychology, conducted a questionnaire survey on 532 elderly people in some cities of Shanxi Province using the Memorial University of Newfoundland Happiness Scale,Intergenerational Support Scale,Social Isolation Scale for the Elderly, and Attitude towards Aging Scale-Revised Edition. The research results are as follows:(1)Intergenerational support shows significant differences in age, residence, education level, monthly income, marital status, number of children, and hobbies.(2)Social isolation shows significant differences in gender, age, residence, education level, monthly income, marital status, number of children, and hobbies.(3)Attitude towards aging shows significant differences in age, education level, monthly income, marital status, number of children, and hobbies.(4)Subjective well-being shows significant differences in age, education level, monthly income, number of children, marital status, and hobbies.(5)In the correlation analysis, intergenerational support, social isolation, aging attitudes and subjective well-being were significantly positively correlated.(6)In regression analysis, intergenerational support significantly positively predicted the subjective well-being of the elderly, while social isolation and aging attitudes as separate factors also positively predicted the subjective well-being of the elderly, intergenerational support can also positively predict older persons’ attitudes towards social isolation and ageing.(7)The results show that social isolation and aging attitude play mediating roles between intergenerational support and subjective well-being,respectively.Social isolation and aging attitude play a chain mediating role between intergenerational support and subjective well-being.In summary, the conclusion of this study suggests that intergenerational support can influence the subjective well-being of the elderly through the chain mediating effect of social distance-aging attitude.Improving the degree of intergenerational support for the elderly can help reduce the risk of social isolation, promote positive attitudes towards aging, and improve their subjective well-being.
