After five years of rapid development,Chinese sweet drama has emerged many excellent works and occupies an important commercial position in the booming market of Chinese drama. There are no monographs or academic thesis dedicated to the study of Chinese sweet drama, and there is a lack of relevant research: there is a lack of necessary detailed combing of its development history, and the existing research is only for individual episodes and certain sub-themes such as youth campus drama;the study of important works and sub-genres of Chinese sweet drama is also very weak, and many of them are still blind spots for research, even if there are academic thesis on them.In this thesis,we try our best to analyze the changes in Chinese sweet dramas from a macro perspective and study their creative characteristics and development rules, while also studying the interaction between Chinese sweet comedies and various social cultures based on the more microscopic entry point of “Sweet On” in 2021.The specific research ideas of this thesis are as follows: from a theoretical point of view,a comprehensive discussion of sweet drama, including the definition, development history, and characteristics of Chinese sweet drama, and then analyze the theatrical operation of Chinese sweet drama according to the case study of this thesis, and summarize the problems of Chinese sweet drama;using “Sweet On” with seven episodes as a research sample,a detailed discussion of the presentation of affective content in Chinese sweet drama. The theatrical operation of Chinese sweet drama is analyzed based on the case study.Based on the metadata of the series itself and the data of Douban short reviews,we analyze the affective distribution pattern of the series and the audience’s general affective recognition of the series;through questionnaires and in-depth interviews,we make a more specific analysis of the audience’s perception and acceptance of sweet-pet series.Combining multiple data,we can see that the most important parts of the viewers’ affective content of Chinese sweet dramas are plot,“couple dynamics” and entertainment.Combining the results of the previous series of analysis,we reflect on the presentation of the affective content of Chinese sweet-pet drama and summarize three suggestions: first,to grasp the scale of “affective consumption” in sweet drama, balancing the sense of fantasy and reality;second,to try to broaden the space of expression and enrich the affective orientation;third,to embrace the possibility of “bad ending aesthetics”.At present, the number of Chinese sweet dramas produced and broadcasted is rising, and the competition for content is becoming more and more intense. In this thesis,by analyzing a large amount of data and survey results,we provide suggestions and directions for the development of Chinese sweet dramas, trying to provide a new vision. In this way, those streaming platforms can more clearly understand where users’ attention to the affective content of dramas falls, and make targeted improvements to the content production of sweet dramas in the future.
