A Study On The Stability Maintenance Propaganda Of Japanese And Puppet Newspapers In The Enemy-occupied Areas Of Wuhan

Wuhan is an important city in central China,which was occupied by the Japanese army for seven years during the Anti-Japanese War,during which the Japanese puppet regime supported by the Japanese army not only frantically destroyed the news industry in Wuhan,but also set up propaganda organizations and published daily and pseudo newspapers and periodicals with pro-Japanese arguments,creating momentum for the stable propaganda of the puppet regime.However,the regional research on the Japanese propaganda in the occupied areas is uneven,and there are few systematic studies on the Wuhan area in the occupied areas of central China.As the largest mouthpiece of the Japanese puppet regime in Wuhan,the "Dachu Daily" was ostensibly a puppet Wuhan Special City Party Department organ newspaper(changed to a joint organ newspaper of the Hubei Provincial Government and Hankou City Government in 1940),but in fact it was still controlled by the Hankou Japanese Military Special Service Department.Not only was the content of the newspaper strictly reviewed by the Japanese puppet propaganda agencies and Japanese advisers,but the transfer and change of newspaper staff had to be approved by the Japanese puppet government.Under the strict control of the Japanese puppet authorities,the "Dachu Daily" carried out a series of stability propaganda aimed at enslaving the people of Wuhan.In order to dispel the people’s anti Japanese sentiment and reduce destructive activities,the newspaper talked extensively about "peaceful founding of the country" and "defeat in the war of resistance",advocating Japan’s sincerity of "peace" while slandering the United States,the United States,and the Soviet Union;In terms of establishing the legitimacy of the Wang puppet regime,the newspaper reported on policy guidelines and political developments,boasted about the puppet regime’s "achievements" in Wuhan,and created an image of the "orthodox" national government,defaming and attacking the Kuomintang and the Communist Party,in order to establish a new image of the Wang puppet regime.To achieve the goal of promoting stability,the newspaper has made great efforts in strategy by promoting the superiority of Japanese culture and shaping a positive image of Japan to create a public opinion atmosphere of "Sino Japanese cooperation";Utilizing the inherent Confucian ideology and Sun Yat-sen’s legacy,it recklessly distorted and concocted a set of heretical theories to wash away his traitorous behavior;Its foolishness propaganda scam not only exaggerated the military strength of the Japanese puppet regime,but also "openly scolded and secretly praised" the Japanese,claiming that their speech is neutral but actually not,causing extremely bad influence in Wuhan.As for the effectiveness of the "Dachu Daily" stability maintenance propaganda,from initial unpopularity to ultimate failure.This was closely related to the anti Japanese propaganda activities actively carried out by the Kuomintang and the Communist Party on the outskirts of Wuhan,as well as the patriotic spirit of the people in the occupied areas.At the same time,through a specific interpretation of the content reported by the newspaper,its stability camp is not unbreakable,and in the later stage of the Anti Japanese War,there were even internal conflicts between members of the newspaper and the puppet government.
