| This is a practice report on the English to Chinese translation of a famous work,How to Do the Work: Recognize Your Patterns,Heal from Your Past,and Create Your Self-Harper Wave,written by the holistic psychologist Dr.Nicole Le Pera and published in 2021.This book is an informational text,aiming to introduce holistic psychology,which breaks down the limitations of traditional psychotherapy.It is an integrative approach to healing that incorporates the mind,body,and soul,and people can use it to heal themselves.The translator mainly translates the Introduction and Chapter 1.Based on Peter Newmark’s communicative translation,the translator analyzes the difficulties in the translation process at three levels: lexical,syntactic and textual.At the lexical level,the translator deals with and analyzes semantic extension and conversion;at the syntactic level,she analyzes and solves complex sentences and parentheses by using translation techniques such as amplification,omission,division and reorganization;and at the textual level,the difficulties that arise in the process of cohesion and coherence are analyzed using techniques such as reference,ellipsis and substitution.This translation practice report can be divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction and it includes the background,purpose and significance,and structure of the report;Chapter 2 is the task description,including the introduction to the author,the introduction and analysis of the source text,and Newmark’s communicative translation theory.Chapter 3 mainly describes the pre-task preparations,translation process,and revisions of the translation;Chapter4 is the case analysis,which takes communicative translation as a guide,the translator analyzes and solves the key points and difficulties;Chapter 5 is the conclusion,which summarizes the translation experience accumulated and limitations in the translation practice. |
