A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Travelling Around China-Zhejiang

Since the G20 Hangzhou Summit in 2016,Zhejiang Province has not only been sought after by Chinese tourists,but also attracted a large number of overseas tourists.Facing the upcoming 19 th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022,Zhejiang should seize this opportunity to adhere to the “cultural going-out strategy”and let more foreigner tourists understand Zhejiang Province local culture.Based on this background,it has an extraordinary significance to promote the English translation of Zhejiang tourist guide texts.The translator takes Travelling Around China—Zhejiang as the source text of this English translation task.According to the characteristics of the text,the translator,based on Hu Gengshen’s Ecological Translation Theory and the principle of threedimensional theory,adopts the case analysis method to discuss the lexical translation methods,syntactical translation methods and textual translation methods.For lexical translation,the translator adopts transliteration and literal translation,borrowing translation,omission,transliteration with annotation and so on,to translate “name of scenic spots”,“four-character idioms” and “culture-loaded words”.For syntactical translation,to translate “passive sentences”,“sentences without subjects” and “long and complex sentences”,the translator sums up translation methods such as amplification,omission and conversion.For textual translation,“cohesion” and“coherence” are the two important factors.The translator uses such methods as division and reorganization,combination and reorganization,and inversion.In this process,the translator takes the balance of ecological translation environment as the primary goal,takes the reaching of language standard,clear meaning,and the fluency of writing as the ultimate goal,and deeply explores and summarizes the characteristics and translation methods of tourist guide texts.In this translation task,the translator not only verifies the important role of Ecological Translation Theory in travel guide text,but also provides effective information for readers with strong interest in Zhejiang tourism,and also provides meaningful references for translators in this field.The translator hopes to take this opportunity to make a contribution to the development of Zhejiang tourism,the transmission of Chinese culture,and the exchange and cooperation between Chinese and western cultures.
