| This report is based on a translation practice of the bidding document from Tianjin Source Power Engineering Co.Ltd Siemens Gamesa, and the bidding document primarily includes the illustration of the EHS safety, the operations of safety and civilized construction, operator’s relevant responsibility, accident handling and so on.The author summarizes the characteristics of the text before the translation work and concludes that this bidding document, mainly involving the professional knowledge of environmental protection, health, and safety in the electrical field,is characterized by the frequent use of technical terms and complex sentences If the translator blindly emphasizes the formal equivalence between Chinese and English,it would cause ambiguity and inaccuracy. The translation of the bidding document requires a lot of pre-translation preparations, including the consideration of the readers, the appropriate selection of translation principles, the expansion of electrical professional knowledge, reading the background materials of the bidding documents, and searching for relevant parallel texts. The author employs Hu Gengshen’s eco-translatology to solve the difficulties encountered in the process of translation.Specifically, this translation, under the guidance of “adaptation and selection” in eco-translatology,is mainly conducted through the transformations from linguistic dimension and communicative dimension. With concrete examples chosen from the translation, corresponding translation techniques are proposed. From the linguistic dimension, translation techniques used mainly include change of tense, shift of voice and the use of nominalization. In tackling long complex sentences, such translation strategies like restructuring, integration and division are employed. From the communicative dimension, methods of deletion and combination are applied to avoid redundancy and repetition in conveying original information.Through the application of the theory of ecotranslatology in the translation of bidding documents, certain effective translation strategies have been proposed. It is hoped that this report will provide reference for future translation practice in this field. |
