Philosophy,as the discipline about worldview and methodology,has a particular significance for social development.Philosophical translation plays a vital role in promoting world philosophy,and it has made a great contribution to the development of Chinese philosophy.Therefore,the author selects Hannah Arendt’s Theory of political Action(Chapter 2)as English-Chinese translation material,which introduces Arendt’s theory of political action in detail and provides readers with a unique perspective to understand Arendt.The report,guided by Eugene A.Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and based on the language of philosophical texts,discusses how to make translation achieve functional equivalence and hopes to put forward translation strategies and methods of philosophical texts by analyzing many examples in this paper.In addition to the subject,methods and significance of this translation practice,this report introduces the tasks and processes of the translation.What is more,it gives a general description of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and its application to this translation practice.This report analyzes translation cases from lexical,syntactical and textual levels,and suggests translation techniques,such as amplification and literal translation,and their effects for translation difficulties such as terminology,nominalization,compound sentences,passive sentences,the cohesion and coherence of discourse.Finally,it summarizes the problems in this translation practice and the solutions.
