| With the rapid development of information technology,visual culture with images,videos and other visual texts as the carrier emerged at the historic moment and has become one of the mainstream cultural forms of the current era.As a result,people have entered the "image reading era",and "viewing" has also become a basic necessary literacy for the public under the background of visual culture.The key competencies of English subject keeps pace with the times,adding "viewing" skills on the basis of the traditional four language skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing,and emphasizes the cultivation of students’ viewing skills.However,in practical English teaching,the teaching of viewing skills is a mere formality,and students lack the opportunities to "view" and lack strategies to develop viewing skills,which causing difficulties in the development of students’ viewing skills.Based on the requirements of the key competencies of the English subject for learners’ viewing skills,this research analyzes the problems existing in the development of high school English learners’ viewing skills,proposes strategies and applies the strategies to the teaching of viewing skills to examine the impact on the development of learners’ viewing skills.Therefore,the study mainly explores the following two questions: 1.What are the specific problems existing in the development of learners’ viewing skills in high school English teaching? 2.What is the impact of the development strategies on high school English learners’ viewing skills development?And the question mainly consists of four sub-questions,namely,the impact of the development strategies on the development of the four skills of recognizing,understanding,analyzing and evaluating of high school English learners.In order to solve the problems raised in this study,the researchers conducted a three-month experimental study with two parallel classes in the first grade of D middle school in Tumusuke,Xinjiang .The experimental research is divided into three stages,namely the pre-experimental stage,the experimental implementation stage and the post-experimental stage.The specific process is as follows:During the pre-experimental stage,the researcher uses the questionnaire and testing methods to explore the problems existing in the development of high school English learners’ viewing skills.Through the analysis of the obtained data,it is found that the development and cultivation of learners’ viewing skills are still in the initial stage.There are mainly the following problems: 1.Teachers attach great importance to the development of learners’ “viewing” skills ideologically.However,due to the lack of understanding of“viewing” skills,they are unable to carry out targeted training for students’ “viewing” skills at all levels in the practical teaching;2.Teachers pay attention to the cultivation of students’ attitudes,but ignore the teaching of methods and strategies;3.There is a single type of visual materials in classroom teaching,and teachers only focus on the relationship between students’ comprehension skills of "viewing" and "reading",while ignoring the integration with other language skills;4.Due to the limitation of teachers’ professional development,students cannot systematically accept the teaching of viewing skills;5.Learners are aware of the learnability of viewing skills,but lack corresponding methods to learn;6.Students lack understanding of the development requirements of viewing skills and cannot make full use of existing resources to develop it.So in view of the problems existing in the development of learners’ viewing skills,the researcher sorts out relevant literature through the literature research method,and proposes the development strategies.Furthermore,during the experimental implementation stage,applying the development strategies to practical teaching through the experimental methodology.And the development strategies of viewing skill are implemented in the experimental class,while the conventional English teaching method is adopted in the controlled class.In the post-experiment stage,the researcher conducts a post-test of viewing skills on the subjects,so as to explore the influence of the strategies on the development of the subjects’ viewing skills.After the experimental study,the researcher analyzes the data through SPSS25.0.The research results show that the strategies can promote the development of students’ viewing skills and also has a positive effect on the learners’ development of the four skills of recognizing,understanding,analyzing,and evaluating.Based on the above research results,the researcher puts forward the following suggestions for the teaching of viewing skills: In the process of learning and cultivating viewing skills,students should change their attitude towards "viewing" and master the necessary strategies and methods;In order to promote the continuous development of learners’ viewing skills,teachers should actively participate in theoretical training and practical guidance related to viewing,pay attention to the cultivation of learners’ viewing skills,make rational use of visual resources,emphasize the integration of "viewing" and other expressive skills,and teach effective development strategies. |
