C-E Translation Report On China Economic Weekly (Excerpts) Under Communicative Translation Theory

As the world’s second-largest economic engine,the development of China’s economy has played an important role in the evolution of the global economic pattern and the innovation of the global economic technology.China’s economic policies such as “The Belt and Road”,“Digital China” and “Rural Revitalization” have been attracting world attention.China Economic Weekly,the only comprehensive weekly economic magazine focusing on politics and economics in China,truly presents the current situation of China’s economic development and related economic policies.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation,seven articles from the first three months of the COVID-19 under the magazine’s panoramic report column are selected as the source text,presenting readers with trends of China’s economic development before the pandemic,as well as providing effective materials for foreign scholars studying China’s economic development before and after the COVID-19.It also analyzed the effectiveness and practical significance of communicative translation theory in this text.The source text of this practice report includes reports on major fields of China’s economic development,such as stocks,housing,and the online economy.Communicative translation theory is applied in this informative text to accurately convey the information in the source text and let the reader of the translated language have the same reading experience as the reader of the source language.Based on the above perceptions,the translator first classifies the source text from lexical,syntactic,textual and cultural levels with the characteristics of the source text.Paraphrasing,annotation,literal translation and free translation are used in translation to ensure the translation equivalence of economic terms and buzzwords.To make the translation concise and simple,conversion,amplification,omission and adjustment of clause order are applied to solve problems such as titles,leads and long and compound sentences.To address the problems of reiterative expressions and loose sentences at the textual level,the translation is tidy and logical by retaining repetition and adding subordinate clauses and conjunctions.Literal translation,free translation and annotation are used in the translation of four-letter words and metaphors at the cultural level to help readers understand the source text’s information and spread Chinese culture.In brief,this translation practice report summarizes translation techniques of informative text under the guidance of communicative translation theory.This translation practice report shows the classification of the source text’s text type can improve translation quality.The translation of the economic text can let foreign readers understand China’s economic development,promote economic cooperation and communication between countries and spread Chinese culture.The translator hopes this report can provide some references for future translations of the same type of text.
