The learning anxiety for Chinese represents one of the important emotion factors affecting those learners who take Chinese as a second language.Under the guidance of such anxiety theories as “The Affective Filter Hypothesis”and“Three-stage Model”,this paper has taken 153 online Chinese learners from four major universities in Gansu Province as the research object to research and analyze the anxiety status quo,causes and solutions through questionnaire survey,statistical analysis and interview method.The questions are studied as follows:1.Is there anxiety for online Chinese learners in Gansu Province’s colleges and universities and if so,how much is the anxiety degree?2.Are there any correlations between individual factors and learning anxiety among online learners?3.Once there occurs online learning anxiety,how will they deal with this situation?4.What causes the online learners to produce learning anxiety?According to our research,the study has shown that:1.There exists learning anxiety for online Chinese learners in Gansu Province’s colleges and universities,with the ultra-low group’s anxiety hitting 4.6%,the middle moderately-low degree’s anxiety hitting 22.9%,the middle degree’s anxiety hitting 48.4%,the middle moderately-high degree’s anxiety hitting 21.6%,the ultra-high group’s anxiety hitting 2.6%.All the learning anxiety is manifested evidently in three dimensions in terms of classrooms,teacher-student communication and online tests.2.In terms of the correlation between individual factors and online anxiety figures,the difference in majors and the motivation of Chinese learning has made a huge difference,while gender,age,nationality,learners’ identity,learning environment,Chinese levels and Chinese-learning hours don’t have a marked impact.3.Faced with learning anxiety,Chinese learners in Gansu Province’s colleges and universities tend to adopt immature and negative methods when they carrying out the online study.According to the Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis results of the "Online Chinese Classroom Anxiety Scale" and the "Online Chinese Class Anxiety Coping-Style Scale",the overall anxiety level and coping style have showed a significantly negative correlation,indicating that the higher the anxiety level of online Chinese learners in Gansu universities and colleges is,the more they are inclined to adopt immature and negative coping approaches.4.The reasons for producing learning anxiety among online Chinese learners are as follows: fewer communication opportunities between teachers and students and among students;teacher-student exchanges and fewer opportunities for student-student exchanges;fears of being ridiculed;the lack of emotion building;the inconvenience of network technology;the characteristics of the Chinese language itself;pressure on scholarships,etc.In the last analysis,this paper has provided a list of feasible measures to online Chinese learners in Gansu Province’s colleges and universities,online Chinese teachers and the listed-above administrators.
