| Huangdi Neijing includes two parts,Suwen and Lingshu.It is not only the foundation of traditional Chinese medicine theory,but also the summation of Chinese civilization.The terms of traditional Chinese medicine contain the concept of traditional Chinese medicine,which is also one of the important contents of the English translation of Huangdi Neijing.A large number of achievements have been made in the English translation of Huangdi Neijing,but most of the existing literatures mainly focus on the translation of Suwen,while the study of Lingshu is relatively insufficient,especially for the study of acupuncture,meridians and life nurturing terms involved in it.Guided by the theory of Eco-translatology proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen,this thesis regards translation as a process in which the translator adapts to the translational eco-environment and selects the translation accordingly.The thesis takes the translation of acupuncture,meridians and life nurturing terms in Huangdi Neijing Lingshu as the research corpus,and selects three English versions of Huangdi Neijing Lingshu by Wu Liansheng and Wu Qi,Li Zhaoguo and Paul U.Unschuld according to the time span of the translation,the breadth of popularity and the background of the translators.On this basis,the article attempts to analyze the characteristics and laws of the translation of acupuncture,meridians and life nurturing terms in the three versions from the three dimensions of language,culture and communication,and compares the translation styles and differences of different translators.This thesis adopts the qualitative-based translation description analysis method,regards the translation as the settled facts,and explores the translator’s adaptation to the translational eco-environment and how the original ecological environment affects the translator’s translation principles,methods and ultimately the choice of translation to achieve their translation purposes.The results show that when translating the terms of acupuncture,meridians and life nurturing,Li’s version mainly adopts literal translation or pinyin plus annotation to maximize the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the original text of Huangdi Neijing Lingshu.Wu’s version tends to use free translation,sometimes in order to better elucidate the connotation of the original text,it adopts the form of adding sentences to supplement,which greatly reduces the difficulty of understanding the original text.Unschuld’s version adopts the strategy of combining literal translation with free translation,in which the translation of meridians mainly focuses on literal translation.On the whole,although the three translators are different in terms of vocabulary selection,sentence pattern application and translation methods in the process of translation,they made unremitting efforts in the three dimensions of language,culture and communication in order to better show readers the charm of traditional Chinese medicine terms contained in the Huangdi Neijing Lingshu.Then let the Chinese civilization be understood by the world,better tell the Chinese story,and convey the Chinese voice. |
