| This is a translation report.The source text in chapters 5 and 6 from a doctoral dissertation entitled Planning for Biodiversity Protection: The Use of Technical Data and Expertise in Environmental Plans,falls into a scientific text.This doctoral dissertation mainly describes how to use sciences to protect biodiversity in environmental planning.Chapters 5 and 6 are the literature review of this dissertation,mainly introducing some planning theories and the use of sciences in urban planning.According to Newmark’s text typology,the source text can be classified as an informative text.It is characterized by using long complex sentences,passive voice,terms,abbreviations,nominalized structures,etc.Newmark put forward that communicative translation is suitable for informative text,so the translator chose it as the guiding theory of this translation practice.In translating,the translator paid attention to the reader’s response and information of the text,trying to make the target readers have an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original.The report includes five parts.Part One gives a brief introduction to the translation task,the purpose and significance of the translation,and the structure of this report.Part Two is a description of the translation process,including translation preparation,while-translation,and post-translation.In translation preparation,the translator describes her reading and understanding process of the source text and choice of translation theory and analyzes which type the source text falls into.In while-translation,translation-aided tools and difficulties that emerged in translating are discussed.In post-translation,the translator describes the process of translation revision.Part Three is the case analysis,which is the core of this report.In this part,the translator discusses some translation skills guided by the communicative translation from the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels in some cases,such as the conversion of part of speech,linear translation,reverse translation,etc.Part Four summarizes the gains and limitations. |
