This is a translation report based on CAT + MT + PE mode. The travel novel After Story written by Australian Indigenous female novelist Larissa Behrendt is chosen as the source text. The translated chapters in this report are Chapter 1,Chapter2 and Chapter 3.The translation report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is a review about the source text’s content, writer and relevant information of CAT + MT + PE mode.Chapter Two describes the whole procedure of this translation practice in detail, including pre-translation process,while-translation process and post-translation process.Building on relevant domestic and foreign studies, the report analyzes the most frequently appeared machine translation error types in this practice from three aspects: lexical, syntactic and textual in Chapter Three. In Chapter Four, this report further puts forward corresponding PE methods under the guidance of memetics.Chapter Five is regarding the reflections and limitations of the whole translation practice. In pre-translation process,ABBYY Fine Reader15 is fully employed for source text segmentation and conversion.Through repeated translation process implementation,Twinslator is chosen as the CAT platform. After a large number of translations and comparisons,Niutrans was selected as the MT engine. In while-translation process, the author utilizes Twinslator according to the source text features.Meanwhile, the author sets up a terminology glossary to ensure the terminology consistency. In post-translation process,post-editing and manual revision are the top priorities. In addition,Adobe Photoshop and other software are applied for image processing and layout optimization.Based on the machine translation output of this practice, the author summarizes the most frequent machine translation errors at the lexical, syntactic and chapter levels. It shows that lexical machine translation errors are mainly mistranslation and under-translation of terminologies.Syntactic level errors are improper handling of passive voice and awkward idiom translation.Textual errors are redundancy and ambiguous references. In addition, under the guidance of Memetics, the author provides corresponding post-editing methods to specific machine translation errors from four stages of meme duplication: assimilation, retention, expression, and transmission,to achieve genotypic replication of translated memes. This practice implies that it is feasible to apply the CAT+MT+PE mode to the translation of travel novels.
