With the continuous deepening of global integration, the cultures of different countries or ethnic groups rely on various carriers to achieve wider and deeper circulation on a global scale. As one of the numerous carriers,TV dramas are not only cultural products that meet the spiritual needs of the public, but also an important window for the outside world to understand a country or a nation, and an important channel to enhance the image of a country and export national culture and values.American dramas, with their excellent production and content, have achieved successful cross-cultural communication in China, and have attracted a large number of American drama fans active on various social platforms in the era of new media. They have played an undeniable role in the cross-cultural communication of American dramas. They are not only recipients who break through cultural barriers, but also producers and disseminators who carry out localization reconstruction. That is to say, while watching American dramas and discussing the plot,American drama fans also engage in secondary creation based on American drama texts. This secondary encoding behavior, which is based on cross-cultural acceptance, has further promoted the cross-cultural dissemination of American dramas in China. Therefore, exploring how American dramas can achieve successful cross-cultural communication in China from the perspective of American drama fans can provide reference for improving the cross-cultural communication effect of Chinese film and television dramas from the perspective of audiences.Firstly, from the perspective of the role of a fan of American dramas as a receiver who breaks through cultural barriers, this article analyzes the cross-cultural acceptance of American dramas.Based on the Grounded theory, this paper refines the elements of American TV fans’ interpretation of American TV dramas, and obtains five main categories: personal realization cognition, interpersonal relationship cognition, national image cognition, emotional expression, and behavioral tendency expression. On this basis,it analyzes the tendency of American TV fans to decode American TV dramas under the10 initial categories in four ways(empathy interpretation, reflective interpretation, questioning interpretation, and critical interpretation),Thus, the characteristics of cross-cultural decoding among American drama fans can be summarized, that is,how American drama fans interpret American dramas by seeking cultural similarities.Through further analysis, three factors that influence cross-cultural decoding among American drama fans are identified: self-identity,group identity, and cognitive norms. From the perspective of the role of American drama fans as producers and disseminators of localization reconstruction, this article analyzes the localization and dissemination of American drama. It includes how the form of American TV fans’ re encoded works has achieved "localization" : avatars meet the self presentation of social media users, the clothing atlas and group video cater to the body consumption in the virtual field, expression packs and ghost videos have joined the craze of subculture youth groups, and watching American TV plays and learning English has achieved fragmentation communication under the upsurge of learning English; It also includes how the content of the secondary encoded works has been "localized" : interpreting American drama texts with local popular culture. Finally,a questionnaire survey was conducted on the online audience of secondary encoded works, and quantitative research methods were used to confirm the driving effect of secondary encoded works on cross-cultural communication of American dramas. Finally, inspiration is gained from the cross-cultural acceptance and localization of American dramas, fully exploring the role of "fans" in cross-cultural communication.Based on the analysis of the difficulties in cross-cultural communication of domestic dramas, strategies are proposed for cross-cultural communication of Chinese TV dramas from two aspects: developing overseas fans and guiding them to participate in cross-cultural communication.
