It has been sixty-eight years since the birth of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan",and it has been active on the opera stage.In the course of this journey,it has established its classical status,which it continues to maintain and secure as time goes on.This study clarifies the meaning and connotation of "Classic" and "Classicization" based on previous research,and then defines the classic qualities and constructive factors of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan",establishing that classicization is a dynamic process in which multiple factors contribute.On this basis,the process of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan" from a story prototype to a classic script,to a classic stage,and the maintenance of classic status is sorted out.The paper explores the laws of Cantonese opera and operatic classicism in the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan".Firstly,the paper explores the basic formation of the classic script of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan".The story of "So Shu Yuan" originated from the traditional play of Hainan Opera,and was transplanted and adapted by the Cantonese opera under the impetus of the "Drama Reform" movement and the "Sam-chun Tries Her Father in Court" incident,which led to the formation of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan"(1954).Two essential elements have contributed to the classic script of "So Shu Yuan",including its outstanding artistic value and deep ideological connotation.This set the stage for the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan" to become a classic.Secondly,the paper examines the formation of the classical stage of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan"(1955)from three aspects: formation,dissemination and interpretation.The creation of the "Madiao Aria and Hongqiang Aria" further enhanced the artistic level of the script and stage of "So Shu Yuan".On this basis,the various dissemination methods,the esteem of opera reviews,and the recognition of audiences affirmed and explored the artistic and cultural identity values of "So Shu Yuan" which together contributed to the construction of the classic stage of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan"(1955).Once again,China opera art genre is an important factor in maintaining the classic status of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan".The relationship between the "Ma" school and "Hong" school and the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan" is one of positive interaction,for one thing,the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan",as a classic repertoire of the genre,has sustained the formation and development of the "Ma" school and "Hong" school;the second is that the inheritance and exploration of "Ma" school and "Hong" school have contributed to the maintenance of the classic status of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan",which has embarked on the path of "getting rid of the stale attitude and bring forth the fresh".Finally,the paper examines the significance of classicization for the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan" and Cantonese opera in terms of its relationship to the theory of classicization.In the process of classicization,the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan" continues to examine,refine and maintain its classical values and connotations,and also provides value for the transmission and development of the Cantonese repertoire.The process of classicization of the Cantonese opera "So Shu Yuan" reflects the classical and artistic genre of the opera stage.It adds a new understanding to the theory of the classicization of opera and Cantonese opera.
