| Report to the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China points out that it is important to enhance the influence of Chinese civilization,deepen exchanges and mutual understanding between civilizations,and promote Chinese culture to the world.Summarizing the practice and experience of cultural communication in other countries around the world and exploring the general rules of international cultural communication are of great value in promoting Chinese culture to the world.The Japan Foundation(JF)is a world-renowned international language dissemination organization,with 25 branches in 24 countries and a large number of cultural dissemination activities,playing an important role in the dissemination of Japanese culture and cultural exchange.This thesis takes the Japan Foundation as the object of study,analyses the cultural background and cultural mission of the foundation,as well as its main types of cultural communication activities.Focusing on the branches in three countries that carry out the most cultural activities,namely Korea,China and the United States,it counts the cumulative 763 cultural communication activities held by them during the period 2018-2022,analyzing their current situation,commonalities and differences in terms of communication subject,content,mode and audience,so as to summarize the characteristics and draw inspiration.The three institutions have commonalities in their cultural communication activities,but each has its own focus and characteristics.In terms of dissemination subjects,all three institutions involve government and social forces,but the Japan-China Exchange Centre is mainly composed of university teachers and students,while the Seoul Cultural Centre and the New York Cultural Centre are more diversified,with close cooperation between the government and social forces.In terms of dissemination content,all three institutions are involved in film and television culture,art and culture,literature and other rich contents,but the themes of the Seoul Cultural Centre are slightly monotonous,while the themes of the New York Cultural Centre are the richest.In terms of dissemination media,the three organizations do not differ significantly,mainly in the form of performances and lectures.In terms of dissemination audiences,the Japan-China Exchange Center’s audiences are all students,while the New York and Seoul Cultural Centers are mostly for the general public.There are three main features of The Japan Foundation cultural dissemination: firstly,the diversity of dissemination subjects and the promotion of two-way cultural dissemination;secondly,the rich cultural content and the series of activities;and thirdly,the focus on the needs of the audiences and the targeting of activities.These three features are important reasons for the success of the Japan Foundation for International Exchange in shaping Japan’s national image.Based on the analysis of the cultural communication practice of the Japan Foundation for International Exchange,four insights are drawn: firstly,focus on the localization of communication subjects;secondly,focus on the integration of local culture with international culture;thirdly,focus on the expansion of cultural communication channels;and fourthly,focus on the cultural needs of different country audiences. |
