In recent years,with the signing of RCEP between China and New Zealand,the economic and trade communications have increased rapidly among the two countries.What’s more,2022 marks the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand.China has expressed its willingness to expand exchanges with New Zealand.The demand for cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand has increased.Chapters 4-6 of the book NEW ZEALAND:The Making of an Asia-Pacific Society respectively introduce New Zealand’s foreign relations,education and science,and sports and arts.It helps readers have a deeper understanding of New Zealand’s history and culture.And it is of great significance to the cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand.So Chapters 4-6 were chosen to be translated.The E-C translation practice report summarizes the translation process of Chapters 4-6 in the book NEW ZEALAND: The Making of an Asia-Pacific Society.This report mainly analyzes the problems the translator encountered in the translation practice and their corresponding solutions.The main problems are non-equivalence of culture-loaded words,uncertainty of the translation of professional terms and neglect of logical coherence of sentences.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory,the translator adopted different translation methods to solve these problems.The corresponding solutions are adoption of literal translation and in-text annotations,determination of the translation by authoritative texts and addition of logical conjunctions in sentences.The target text will be more accurate,coherent and readable by adopting these solutions.In this translation practice,the translator better understands New Zealand’s culture and history.Besides,the translator gets to know that it is necessary to widen the areas of knowledge and make use of online resources.
