Sun Xiang(1657-1740),formerly known as Li Yuanzhi,whose courtesy name were Ziwei and Yuwei,and pseudonyms were Eshan and Chengzhai.He was born in Dongliu Village,Xinlijin River,Dezhou,Qing Dynasty(now Sunjiawa,Dezhou Lingcheng Economic Development Zone,Shandong Province).He was a celebrity during the reign of Kangxi and Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty.He was honest and upright.His highest position and last position were respectivelyis young minister of Dali Temple and general secretary of the right senate.There are Helvzhai Poetry Collection(referred to as Helvzhai Collection),including a volume of poetry and four volumes of manuscripts,Helvzhai Manuscripts and poems outside the collection.There are 162 poems by Sun Xiang,which are rich and varied in genres.According to their contents,they can be summarized into three categories: travel notes,gifts and ancient lyrics.There are 171 articles by Sun Xiang,which can be divided into four categories according to style: prefaces and postscripts,biographies,letters and memorials.His articles emphasize the content of words and the order of words.The rich content of the articles,the coherent and smooth structure,and the concise and elegant language constitute the characteristics of Sun Xiang’s articles,which are solemn,profound,simple and beautiful.On the whole,the paper takes Sun Xiang and his poems as the main research object.Through literature research method,data analysis method and mutual comparison method,it makes careful study of Helvzhai Collection,Helvzhai Manuscripts and existing literature records.Then it combs basic situation of Sun Xiang’s family,life,friends and bookmaking,and makes a systematic arrangement and inquiry analysis of his poems,in order to give Sun Xiang and his poems an accurate historical positioning.Sun Xiang has been an official for more than 40 years,known for his rectitude,honesty and uprightness.As a scholar of Shanzuo nationality,he took "Poverty is good for itself,while attainment is good for the world at the same time" as his official criterion in his life.However,there is a gap between reality and ideal,which makes Sun Xiang not only actively participate in the world,but also often have the emotion of recluse.This complex thought and emotion is expressed in poetry creation,which makes Sun Xiang’s poetry style not only implicit and elegant,but also has the characteristics of depression and free writing.In terms of poetry content and creative techniques,Sun Xiang’s poetry generally revolved around the life of literati.He advocated learning from the pre-Qin and Han dynasties,and praised Wang Wei’s aesthetic characteristics of "painting in poetry".While further enriching the meaning of Shen Yun theory,his poetry formed its own unique poetic style,which promoted the development of the diversity of poetic style in the early Qing Dynasty to a certain extent.In addition,Sun Xiang moved the world with his literary reputation,and his prose creation paid more attention to narrative and realism than poetry.Its text is plain and simple,and the language is concise and elegant,which is the most suitable reading material for students at that time.Therefore,his article is widely spread among literati students and praised by literati in the present and later generations.From combing and analysis we can find that Sun Xiang and his poems play an important role in the development of Qing Dynasty literature.Therefore,the study of Sun Xiang’s life,friendship,poetry and so on is helpful to understand Kangxi and Yongzheng’s scholar mentality and friendship,the characteristics of Kangxi and Yongzheng’s poetry creation,the direction of Kangxi and Yongzheng’s prose creation,and the regional characteristics of Kangxi and Yongzheng’s literature development.It is also of great significance to promote the poetry and prose research of the Qing Dynasty.
