A Report On E-C Translation Of Humanimal (Excerpts) Under The Guidance Of Eco-Translatology

Nowadays,the rapid development and widespread popularizing of science and technology are of vital importance to national development and social progress.Popular science text carries both scientific and literary characteristics,aiming to convey scientific knowledge and the latest progress in the field of science and technology to the general public in a simple but understandable way.In the era of globalization,it is an inevitable trend to continuously update advanced scientific knowledges and theories.Therefore,the importance of the translation of popular science texts is with no doubt.In light of the characteristics of popular science text,its translation should also guarantee the unity of science and literature.This translation practice report is drawn from some chapters of the English popular science book Humanimal.The author of the book is Adam Rutherford,a geneticist and scientific writer.It is a popular science book that introduces and discusses the history of human evolution to the public from the perspectives of genetics and linguistics.This paper takes eco-translatology as the theoretical guidance.Translation activities are the corresponding adaptative and selective activities of the translator in a certain translation ecological environment,according to this theory.The translator should accomplish the multi-dimensional transformation of the language dimension,culture dimension,and communication dimension of the translated text.Guided by eco-translatology and in the form of case analysis,this paper attempts to solve the translation difficulties in terms of the unclear meaning of words,cultural differences,and delivery of communicative intent from the three dimensions by using specific translation methods such as specification,omission,and addition.It is found that eco-translatology could provide a new research perspective for Chinese translation of popular science texts.The selection of translation strategies and methods requires the translator to consider various factors in the translation ecological environment.At the same time,the translator should give full play to his or her subjective initiative and carry out translation activities in accordance with the principle of multi-dimensional transformation.It is hoped that this report would be able to bring more enlightenment to the application of eco-translatology and the study of popular science translation in the future.
